Job Summary/Description:

WBRC-TV, the Gray Television owned, FOX affiliate in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a Supervisor of Engineering. Great opportunity for the ''right candidate'' as position could result (not guaranteed) in an end of year promotion to Chief Engineer (upon the retirement of existing Chief). Position requires a full knowledge of station operations and technical layout, with a strong emphasis on broadcast news. Must possess good interpersonal communications skills, both oral and written, and be fully computer literate. Comprehensive knowledge of RF signals, transmission mechanics, mechanical engineering, and studio technical equipment operation required. Requires competent knowledge of broadcast signal flow with the ability to quickly identify key points of failure and bypass faults with minimal syste

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Maintenance of the technical facility including studio support, post editing systems, field production support and transmission of live/taped events & programs.
* Work closely with the station's staff and corporate leadership to implement new technologies for the business as a whole.
* Ensure all transmission equipment is operating correctly.
* Help maintain FCC-required documentation.
* Provide technical support to members of other departments and the station in general.
* Maintain engineering, broadcast, and IT operations throughout technical plant as well as connectivity to Gray Core systems.
* Oversee management and planning of projects as assigned.
* Candidate will work closely with the General Manager and all station managers.

Qualifications/Requirements:
* Candidate must be a excellent leader, coach, and trainer with a proven track record in a television station engineering & IT environment.
* Have knowledge regarding equipment, technology, including RF, microwave and transmission systems.
* Must have a background with previous work experience in TV Broadcast Engineering.
* Practical knowledge of broadcast signal flow with the ability to quickly identify key points of failure and bypass faults with minimal system downtime.
* An understanding of high-power Radio Frequency systems, including Microwave and UHF TV Transmitters.
* Work comfortably using the latest operating systems software, including networking, server and desktop operating systems.
* Familiarity with cable fabrication techniques, including XLR, BNC, RJ45 and similar ethernet connectors.
* Able to safely handle equipment and tools weighing 50 pounds.
* Availability to occasionally work outside of normal daytime hours.
* Must have a clean driving record and valid driver's license.
