Warner Music's Center of Excellence for Shared Services, opened in 2017 and is the home to the financial, legal and administrative functions that provide critical support and best-in-class services to our US Recorded Music and Publishing businesses. The Nashville center embodies the innovative and creative spirit that stems from the company's deep history in nurturing entrepreneurial thinking and artist-focused innovation, enabling our employees to develop a wide range of skills through cross-function collaboration and development opportunities.

The Legal Department is responsible for enforcing WMG's rights in the recorded music repertoire controlled by its U.S. record labels, managing litigations involving WMG's recorded music catalog rights in conjunction with WMG's corporate litigation in-house counsel, fielding inquiries from third parties, researching WMG's recorded music catalog rights, filing applications to register copyrights in and to WMG's recorded music repertoire, and managing WMG's relationships with the labor unions with which WMG's U.S. record labels have collective bargaining agreements.

Members of the Legal Department work closely with employees in the Business Affairs, Finance, Production, Operations, New Media, and Marketing departments of each label client to fulfill the above-referenced responsibilities for the recordings and record those labels release.

The candidate hired to fill this position will be responsible for: (1) answering, researching and resolving inquiries from artists, producers, and other third parties, (2) performing general legal research pertaining to WMG's rights in existing recording agreements, (3) analyzing the recording agreements that govern WMG's existing catalog recordings and relaying analysis to Legal Department senior management, and (4) performing other tasks as requested by Legal Department senior management, such as drafting cease and desist letters, legal memoranda, letters of direction and general legal correspondence.

Here you'll get to:
• Field, research, resolve, and track incoming inquiries from recording artists, producers, and other third party royalty participants, and their representatives in a timely, customer-focused manner;
• Maintain security protocols and protect the company from risk by requesting and assessing documentation necessary to verify the identity of external inquirers before responding to the aforementioned inquiries;
• Review, analyze and interpret various provisions in the recording agreements that govern WMG's existing catalog recordings;
• Work with employees of the artist royalties department to determine the applicable royalty rates for a given record or product and answer other questions regarding WMG's contractual rights;
• Perform general legal research pertaining to WMG's rights in existing recording agreements;
• Draft cease and desist letters and other correspondence necessary in the pursuit of potential third party infringers;
• Review and revise (as necessary) payee change requests WMG receives from royalty participants and their estates;
• Conduct research within internal royalty systems, databases and files and work with royalty analysts to resolve basic royalty-related inquiries and implement changes to existing royalties accounts;
• Manage and prioritize workload to meet or exceed established department productivity and quality expectations; and
• Perform such other duties as reasonably may be required by Legal Department senior management.

Rockstar candidates will have the following:
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited, U.S. law school is required;
• License to practice law in Tennessee;
• Candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Candidate must possess excellent analytical, mathematical and organizational skills;
• Candidate must possess strong legal and Internet research skills;
• Candidate must have strong computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office's Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications;
• Candidate must be able to work well independently and as part of a team;
• Candidate must be able to meet deadlines consistently and effectively while working under pressure;
• Candidate must be able to manage multiple assignments at any given time and prioritize them effectively and appropriately;
• Candidate must be a team player who is able to multi-task, prioritize and maintain a standard of excellence.

It would be music to our ears if you also had:
• 1 or more years of relevant, music industry and/or law firm experience, including reviewing and analyzing music industry recording agreements, though such experience is not required.
