Associate Director, Legal & Business Affairs

We currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our innovative and highly sought-after Legal team at Warner Chappell Music Publishing.

High Level Job Description : Under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment and decision making, participates in the legal and certain related financial and business operations and aspects of the Company, involving negotiations, deals or contracts affecting copyrights, licenses, royalties, fees, claims, settlement sand other related legal and/or business matters.

Detailed Job Description/ Responsibilities:
• Drafts publishing contracts including but not limited to co-publishing, administration, sub-publishing, purchase, finder, visual media licenses, and contracts related to the acquisition, exploitation and/or administration of music production libraries.
• Participates in the negotiation and signing of contracts with singers, songwriters, groups, publishers, producers, music production libraries, or other personnel as directed.
• Responsible for special projects as assigned by supervisor and/or the Head of Legal & Business Affairs, or other senior officers of the Company.
• Coordinates, confers and works with outside counsel, their respective staffs and principals, Corporate Legal Department, other Corporate Companies on legal and business matters concerning the Company.
• Reviews and makes recommendations on the payment of certain fees, royalties, copyrights, licenses, invoices, claims, and related financial matters.
• Works with other departments staff such as Copyright, Catalogue Development, Licensing, Royalty, IT, Creative and Print, on Company related matters.
• Attends Company staff meetings and prepares necessary and required reports as requested.
• Handles and safeguards confidential and proprietary information.
• Must be able to effectively communicate internally and/or externally in a manner consistent with the company's Code of Conduct and core values.
• Must be able to read and understand materials and documents and have the ability to recognize and extract critical data and information.
• Must be able to perform all diverse physical tasks necessary to complete all the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Education/Experience Required:
• A baccalaureate degree including business related courses such as accounting, finance, business administration and management would be preferable, a graduate degree in law (LL.B. or JD), and State Bar Certification, California Certification preferred.
• Minimum Two (2) years of relevant professional legal experience; at least one (1) of which will have been with a law firm or corporate business, engaged in legal and related business affairs operations such as, but not limited to, deal negotiations, drafting and administration of contracts, all aspects of copyright, licensing, fees, royalty payments, claims, etc;
• Or, a satisfactory equivalent of education, training and experience in related fields and/or educational disciplines, sufficient to qualify for the requirements of position.
