The Role
Based within WarnerMedia's European Legal & Business Affairs Department through four six-month seats within any of the following legal teams: Film Production; Anti Piracy/Intellectual Property; Employment; Privacy; Commercial; and International TV/Local Film Production. There is also the possibility of one of the four seats being with an external law firm. Typical duties in each seat are provided below.
The Daily
Film Production Team
• Assisting with the drafting and negotiation of contracts for: cast; crew; locations; and other suppliers;
• Advising production personnel regarding legal issues relating to productions;
• Handling immigration issues;
• Advising US WM executives regarding UK law and custom/practice as well as the applicable laws in applicable EMEA territories;
• Communicating the current status of contracts and legal issues.
Anti Piracy/Intellectual Property team
• Assisting with contentious Anti- Piracy and intellectual property matters, including the drafting of ''cease and desist'' letters and other inter-party correspondence; collating evidence; and case preparation;
• Assisting with the drafting of legal documents to control intellectual property rights;
• Assisting with the drafting of publicity and marketing contracts;
• Reviewing press clippings for intellectual property infringements and other brand issues.
Employment team
• Reviewing WM's HR policies, employment agreements and consultancy agreements across multiple jurisdictions across EMEA and APAC;
• Advising in relation to contentious pan-European and APAC employment matters including: collective employment processes, disciplinaries; grievances; dismissals, settlement agreements, TUPE transfers ;
• Assisting with WB's pan-European and APAC , immigration, compliance and conflict of interest issues.
Privacy team
• Assisting with regulatory and compliance work, including: issues relevant to the role out of WarnerMedia systems and initiatives; and the GDPR;
• Assisting with marketing projects (promotions and competitions, social media and interactive marketing activities);
• Providing support in managing data protection notifications for local offices and projects/systems across the EU and International.
Commercial team
• Document preparation and review - of various types of WM standard commercial contracts including program acquisition agreements, facilities agreements, marketing agreements, ad sales, campaigns and sweepstakes,
• SM A (Supplier Master Agreement)/ Procurement queries- preparing standard amendments to SMAs.
• Multi-territory project work- involving coordination with local counsel and updating standard documents coordinating the gathering of information.
• Due Diligence - performing compliance checks/searches.
International TV/Local Film Production
• Assisting with programming agreements, including: various production agreements, location and production services agreements, rights releases, authors, options and artists agreements and non-disclosure agreements;
• Assisting with clearance issues and compliance/defamation matters, including advising on the broadcasters' codes of practice and policies where appropriate;
• Assisting with the preparation of production protocols for production teams in relation to key areas; and
• Assisting with due diligence projects to ensure compliance with applicable anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws.
The Essentials
• Graduated from university (2.1 degree level or equivalent preferred).
• Completed the LPC or BPTC.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Fluency in second European language not essential, but would be useful.
