The Job

The Staff Product Designer - CNN Politics is an experienced designer who collaborates with a highly-skilled and diverse team of product designers, product managers, engineers, researchers, editorial partners, and data scientists to build and grow CNN Digital product experiences that help inform & engage our users, and impact CNN's bottom line. This role is specifically focused on the design of personalized and connected experiences in the politics and elections spaces, and will involve staffing elections as part of a digital support team.

The Daily

In this role, you will:
• Oversee & execute on CNN's Politics product design efforts for mobile and desktop web, including page templates, information architecture, navigation, integrated editorial and product experiences, and personalization features, all with a focus on storytelling, accessibility, and making meaning
• Collaborate with partners on your cross-functional team to understand the needs of our users and establish end-to-end and connected workflows designed to best serve those needs
• Partner with your team to solve meaningful user problems and proactively drive strategic solutions and results
• Collaborate with your product and engineering counterparts to steer the holistic view of the user journey to provide a superior and seamless product experience, from daily improvements to longer-term strategies
• Participate in qualitative research activities to inform design decisions, including unmoderated and possibly moderated concept testing
• Help identify research needs and opportunities, and collaborate with research partners on efforts to fill those needs
• Make use of qualitative and quantitative insights to inform and evaluate design decisions
• Explain user problems and the rationale for recommended solutions to cross-functional team members
• Meaningfully participate in design reviews with your product design peers
• Present design work to your cross-functional peers, including framing the user problem or opportunity, proposed solutions, desired feedback, status, dependencies, and next steps

The Essentials
• Product design portfolio demonstrating strong UX and visual design solutions, with an emphasis on identifying and meaningfully solving true user problems
• 8+ years professional experience, specifically as a Product Designer 
• Experienced in design software such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Miro, and possibly others
• Expertise in visual design elements, including typography, layout, and visual hierarchy 
• Prototyping skills
• Qualitative research experience a plus, but not required
• Exceptional track record advancing product design strategy from a long-term view to daily execution, mentoring designers, and partnering with cross-functional team members 
• Bachelor's Degree in Design or a related field or equivalent work experience
• You like to take smart risks and champion new ideas, and you care about informing the electorate through product design in support of world-class journalism
