The Job

We are currently seeking a Paralegal for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment's Legal and Business Affairs Departments. This position reports to the Executive Director, Rights and Clearance.

The Daily
• Responsible for clearing all music for in-game and marketing uses. Negotiates and drafts music licenses and composer agreements.
• Negotiates and drafts voice-over agreements, performance capture agreements and motion capture agreements for interactive entertainment.
• Responsible for clearing games. Reviews builds of video games identify legal clearance issues (e.g., third party trademarks and copyrights and right of publicity issues). Analyzes game scripts and advise production on a variety of legal matters in connection with script clearances. Negotiates and drafts appropriate releases to acquire rights.
• Responsible for clearing marketing materials. Work with the business to review marketing collateral and other customer-facing and press messaging; advise on legal issues such as contractual rights, rights of privacy and publicity, FTC clearance matters; and issue spotting for events and other marketing opportunities.
• Negotiates and drafts various other standard contracts including services agreements, vendor agreements, preview release agreements, non-disclosure agreements and submission release agreements.
• Provides various other business and legal services, including review of contractual obligations and options, copyrights, contract administration, data entry (including updating internal licensing management system).
• Works with WBIE production and marketing to create proper legal notices on all packaging, collateral materials and in-game.
• Creates and maintains a system for organizing all clearance records for each game title.
• Prepares documentation and coordinates copyright and trademark filings with Warner Bros. corporate legal team.
• Handles all other legal tasks as requested by attorneys and other senior executives.

The Essentials
• Undergraduate degree required.
• Minimum 2 years experience with transactional entertainment and/or clearance work.
• Experience with record labels, music publishing companies and the multi-media content production and distribution industry or the law firms and agencies representing same preferred.
• Knowledge of guild agreements, including SAG/AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement highly preferred.
• Experience handling clearances is required. Experience handling video game clearances is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of music industry required.
• Working knowledge of interactive software market/entertainment industry required.
• Working knowledge of contract law; familiarity with copyright, trademark and other intellectual property law required.
• Working knowledge of union and guild issues preferred.
• Must have excellent negotiating skills and must be detail oriented.
• Should possess strong PC Skills, including proficiency with MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Must have excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
• Must be a team player and willing to pitch in whenever needed.
• Must have the ability to work in a fast-pace environment and to prioritize work to meet specific deadlines required.
• Must be self-motivated & results oriented.
