SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Develops, negotiates and manages deals for composer, co-composer, sub-composer, producer and music supervisor services on television shows, movies-for-television and mini-series.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
As instructed by the Executive Director, Music, evaluates new projects to determine the overall structure necessary to move forward with offers to vendors (i.e. production entities, union and guild status, programming platforms, etc.) At the direction of ED Music, collaborates with Executive Producers, Studio Executives, Talent Agents, and Artist Managers to develop, negotiate, and execute Composer, Co-composer, Sub-composer, Producer and Music Supervisor deals (Composer Lending Package Agreement and Music Supervisor Employment Agreement and Master Recording Agreements).
Manages the status, directs the completion and execution of all assigned Composer, Co-composer, Sub-composer, Producer and Music Supervisor documents. Identifies and advises Music Legal on potential issues that may arise in the final execution of the deals and makes recommendations based on Music policy and practice.
Advises TV Music executives on all issues relating to Composer and/or Music Supervisor services and responsibilities (i.e., budgets, pre-records, vocal performances, delivery schedules, creative changes, third party master recordings, etc.) Discern potential problems relating to such issues and determine and facilitate additional compensation or steps to be taken to resolve these issues including re-negotiation with talent representatives.
Resolves any Composer, Co-composer, Sub-composer, Producer or Music Supervisor related issues arising during production which may not be covered in their standard agreement, (i.e., pre-records, vocal performances, delivery schedules, creative changes).
Responsible for the timely entry and ongoing maintenance of the shared file containing all deal memos, and executed agreements for Composer, Co-composer, Sub-composer, Producer and Music Supervisors.
Approves and reviews Composer and Supervisor payment requests and approves release.
Directs Music Legal in the preparation of Certificate of Authorship paperwork for all co-composers and sub-composers.
Consults and advises Music Legal regarding Music Supervisor and Composer/Producer deals for soundtrack albums (i.e., soundtrack album royalties and/or other compensation).
Manages various aspects of the Music Department Showcase production, including invitations to executives, artist, label and publisher relations, booking of venue and overseeing set up.
Assists with special projects, which include securing talent for various company parties and events, and various marketing and promotional initiatives.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Work Experience
• Experience with contract negotiations required.
• Experience dealing with composers and composer agents required.
• Familiarity with television industry required.
• Previous studio experience strongly preferred.
Education, Professional Training, Technical Training or Certification
• BA/BS preferred
Knowledge/Skills
• Knowledge of budgets for television shows.
• Developed relationships with industry professionals preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of company and department personnel, as well as producers, directors, publishers, record company executives and composers and their representation.
• Understanding of the standard legal documents and their variations used to secure composer and music supervisor services.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
