Your New Role

Warner Bros. Discovery is seeking an experienced tax executive to lead our Global Tax Reporting and Compliance organization. The role will be responsible for managing WBD's global financial reporting for taxes, US federal and state tax compliance, and US federal tax audit and controversies. The role reports into the Executive Vice President and Sr Tax Counsel and manages a team of direct reports and our co-source arrangement with an external service provider. The ideal candidate should have a high level of solving problems at scale, excellent communication skills, strong business acumen and the ability to lead high performing teams and manage multiple functions in a global environment.

Your Role Accountabilities

Financial reporting for taxes
• Establish controls to ensure that our global tax accounting process yields zero defects, defined as out-of-period adjustments. Review and sign off on accounting for income taxes and related disclosures for the company's SEC reporting.
• US & International reporting will be under this role

US federal and state tax compliance
• Direction of the US federal, state, and local income tax compliance function for the Company. Responsibilities also include federal income tax audits, research, planning and business advisory services. With respect to state and local income tax audits, research, planning and business advisory services, responsibilities are to support the VP for state and local taxes. The overall objective of this position is to ensure compliance with all applicable US federal, state, and local tax laws while minimizing the tax burden for the Company and efficiently managing company resources related to income taxes.

US federal controversies
• Responsible for US federal income tax audits
• Meeting with tax authorities on a regular basis, researching and developing defense strategies for tax positions, and interfacing with personnel from all areas of the Company to facilitate the collection and analysis of data necessary for tax audit defense
• Lead communications with tax authorities to understand, discuss, and bring resolution to complex issues
• Manage several external consultants and legal counsel regarding advice and negotiation strategies
• Collaborate with transfer pricing and tax planning teams to ensure all aspects of the Company's tax audits are properly managed, and to provide regular updates regarding audit status
• Collaborate with SMEs to develop strategic positions addressing the impact of legislative and other relevant changes to tax audits
• Develop tax planning strategies based upon audit and controversy resolution experience
• Content Accounting : Lead tax-optimized accounting for our content engine (studios)
• Team Leadership
• Build team centered around compliance planning, controls and analysis
• Communicate senior management strategic visions to staff. Ensure skills sets and competencies are aligned. Review and approve entire team's goals and objectives.
• Set prioritization of work across team.
• Maintain culture of continuous process improvement and change management.

Qualifications & Experience
• 15+ years of tax reporting and compliance experience
• Big 4 accounting firm experience and in-house corporate experience
• Undergraduate accounting degree
• Graduate degree in taxation preferred
• GAAP accounting for income taxes
• US federal and state income taxation
• Tax reporting and compliance technology
• Extremely high standards for quality – must want to build the best possible reporting and compliance practice – no compromises
