Job Description
Meet our team
The Direct to Consumer (DTC) Group is a technology company within Warner Bros Discovery. We are building a global streaming video platform (OTT), and a suite of applications to support all of our network's brands globally. We are building modern container-based micro-services operated on AWS. Our platform covers everything from search, content catalog, video transcoding, personalization, to global subscriptions, and much more. We build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of WBD owned networks (Max, Discovery, Food Network, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, Discovery Play, and many more). This is a growing, global engineering group crucial to WBD's future.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the DTC Content & Experience Tooling team. This team plays a critical role in developing the internal tools and systems that support the Personalization and Merchandising organizations.
Our team is responsible for building and maintaining tools used across HBO Max and Discovery+, including:
• Content Promotion
• Site Configuration (CMS) and Experience Previewing
• Catalog Visualization
As a team of full-stack engineers, we focus on streamlining merchandising workflows and enabling seamless integrations with personalization platforms. We value simplicity, scalability, and developer-friendly solutions that empower our internal stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate:
• Brings experience building and operating high-performance, scalable systems in production environments, with a proven track record of delivering impactful solutions to customers.
• Leads by example, driving engineering best practices and helping establish standards that elevate the team's overall quality and productivity.
• Plays a key role in shaping team strategy, actively contributing to technical planning, roadmap development, and cross-functional alignment.
• Demonstrates strong judgment in making trade-offs between short-term gains and long-term goals, balancing speed with sustainability.
• Is data-driven and intellectually curious, approaching complex technical challenges with a problem-solving mindset and a passion for scale.
• Takes full ownership of their work, consistently delivering results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
• Act as a collaborative technical leader, helping other engineers and team members be more productive through support and guidance.
• Lead the design and development of major features or architectural changes across multiple workstreams-both enhancing existing systems and building new ones.
• Troubleshoot production issues effectively, identify root causes, and drive post-mortem learnings to improve development processes and system reliability.
• Provide technical guidance on design, coding standards, and operational best practices to ensure long-term scalability and maintainability.
• Mentor and coach engineers, supporting their growth and enabling them to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Measure your success not just by personal output, but by the positive impact you have on the team and overall engineering effectiveness.
Technical skills and experience
• Proficiency in Java or other JVM languages (e.g., Kotlin).
• Experience with containerization and cloud infrastructure, including Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks such as React and Node.js.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures, including asynchronous communication via gRPC or Kafka.
• Practical experience with databases and caching technologies, including PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, and Caffeine.
• Ability to implement robust monitoring and observability, using tools such as Prometheus, CloudWatch, Kibana, and PagerDuty.
