Your New Role…
The Proofreader will support and partner with the Manager, Proofreading & Localization Services to vigilantly defend all DC publishing products-from comics to posters to ads-from copy errors. This team member must be proficient in basic and advanced grammar rules and understand how to use an internal style guide. The ideal candidate is meticulous in reviewing copy, noting errors such as punctuation, spelling, and word usage, and exercises good judgment when working with fiction. The proofreader must communicate effectively with team members to ensure work is consistent across dozens of products, story lines, and multiverses.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Proofread materials for publication and internal and external communication. This includes, but is not limited to, material from Editorial, Sales, Design, Publicity, Marketing, and Franchise Management.
• Proofread up to 80 periodicals per month, ensuring that the DC Style Guide standards are adhered to. Responsibility includes checking titles, creator credits, indicias, mastheads, etc.
• Check accuracy of UPC, price, ISBN and date on periodical and trade reprint covers before approval to print.
• Proofread design matter related to up to 60 collected editions per month while ensuring that the DC Style Guide standards are adhered to.
• Proofread and copy edit Editorial Manuscripts for up to 60 Collected Edition books per month, to allow material to fit allocated space, improve readability of the material, and to keep consistent with the DC Style Guide.
• Receive and update schedules to prioritize work. Enter work received and date completed into log, giving Pre-Press Manager a picture of the efficiency of workflow and any problem areas to address.
• Work with other proofreaders to field questions from staff regarding grammar, syntax, and the house style.
• Work with other proofreaders to note editorial preferences and new names and terminology across the lines for the purpose of updating the DC Style Guide.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience…
• Previous work experience in a proofreading position required. Comics related proofreading and copy-editing experience preferred.
• Minimum one year work experience in an office environment required.
• College degree in English, Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience required.
• Knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax of the English language. Similar knowledge of a second language preferred.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff and management.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple project elements simultaneously.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), as well as Adobe Acrobat Professional.
• Knowledge of AP Style or the Chicago Manual of Style.
• Knowledge of the DC Universe preferred.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $38,497.00 - $71,494.00 salary per year.
