Your New Role
This individual oversees WBD's Corporate P&L supporting Technology, HR, Finance, Security, and Legal. This individual manages five employees domestically, and indirectly manages offshore teams in India, and captive teams in both India and Argentina. The team is responsible for reviewing all P&L activity and completing month-end deliverables/reports. This role will ensure all deliverables are completed timely, accurately, and will sign off on necessary close requirements.
This individual will be the point of contact for all corporate expense questions and issues related to policies and procedures, audits/SOX and ad hoc requests from management or tax, global companies, and corporate departments.
This position interacts with executive leaders in Corporate Finance and Operations. This position will need to explain complex data, evaluate often limited information, and estimates to determine conclusion and strictly enforce an effective controls environment. The individual must be able to form conclusions on accounting positions and communicate effectively.
This position requires a strong understanding of GAAP and the company's policies/controls. This person needs the ability to problem solve and manage relationships with various business leaders across the company.
Your Role Accountabilities
• Lead and manage multiple teams responsible for accounting for SG&A and COR expenses for Corporate. Ensuring accounting policies are strictly enforced and has clear understanding of WBD Controllership goals and objectives. Ensure constant communication and issue resolution with Finance and Accounting teams across all Segments given scope of responsibilities impacting all Segments in addition to Corporate.
• Exercise knowledge and decision authority in evaluating judgmental areas of accounting including accruals, prepaids, and legal entity accounting. Evaluate complex contracts and transactions for accounting treatment and consult with technical accounting team
• Ensure monthly close process is accurate, timely and efficient. Manage multiple close deadlines across multiple ERP systems and numerous sub systems. Ensure financial controls over systems and processes are properly functioning and sign off on control effectiveness quarterly in accordance with WBD SOX guidelines
• Provide accounting perspective and support to senior Finance and Accounting leaders including Controllership SVP's, VPs, Executive Directors. Perform complex technical accounting research to provide management with timely information for decision making. Analyze Warner Bros. Discovery's financial position with respect to profits, trends, and costs, and report findings and recommendations to executive leadership. Maintain a collaborative and pro-active communications with business partners while maintaining integrity and compliance with WBD accounting policies. Lead special projects and proactively develop accurate ad hoc analysis for management to make informed decisions
• Ensure financial statements are accurately recorded through reporting and analysis. Responsible for maintaining robust and timely balance sheet reconciliations including periodic assessment of account risk and review of key accounts. Responsible for variance reporting on P&L to ensure accruals and monthly P&L activity is reasonable and complete. Completion of SEC supplemental schedules for footnote disclosures
• Responsible for defining the WBD Controllership culture through sponsorship and involvement in cross-department development and team-building programs. Provide leadership guidance and sponsorship to ad hoc and recurring Controllership improvement projects including software implementation, efficiency initiatives and process improvements
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience required (industry or public), including at least 5 years of supervisory experience
• Strong understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP )and SOX requirements
• BS/BA in related discipline from an accredited university
• CPA required
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, deadline-oriented.
• Ability to adapt to dynamic and uncertain environments (flexibility and prioritization).
• Great communication skills as this individual will be coordinating with stakeholders both domestically and internationally
• Initiative, independent problem-solving abilities, ownership of work product, and strong leadership qualities
• In-depth experience with process analysis and improvement.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage the accounting activities and projects for multiple diverse businesses.
• Strong execution skills, advanced analytical skills, and significant technical accounting skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate key information.
• Unceasing curiosity and the courage to challenge the status quo.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Preferred experience:
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Technical accounting research and memo writing.
• Blend of both public and industry experience.
• SAP, PeopleSoft Financials, Oracle, Hyperion, or other ERP systems.
• Experience in Media industry, Big Four firms or global companies.
