The Role

The Director, Corporate Communications is responsible for Warner Bros. Discovery's corporate brand and personality in the Australian and New Zealand markets, internally with employees and externally with media, government and industry stakeholders. Based in Auckland, with travel to Sydney as needed, this role will spearhead a communications strategy in line with the changing face of the business, with the objective of educating and exciting external stakeholders about the company's current successes and future ambitions.

The role will ensure our story is clear internally and externally and our relationships are strong in areas that will support our growth, including government and regulatory bodies.

The role reports to the Head of Communications, Asia Pacific and will work closely with other local functions such as Marketing, Publicity, Programming, Creative, Advertising Sales, Commercial Strategy, as well as the APAC Communications team.

The role has a direct report Internal Communications Executive, ANZ and accountability for managing Government Relations including external contractors.

Key Responsibilities:
• Oversight and leadership for Corporate Communications in ANZ, across multiple businesses locally, aligning to overall strategic narrative locally, regionally and globally.
• Develop and execute annual comms plans for Corporate Communications, including profile strategy for General Manager and other key Executives as required including interviews, conferences and speaking engagements.
• Develop and execute annual Govt Relations strategy for AU and NZ markets in line with business needs, and in collaboration with Govt Relations Specialist, including development of proposals and positions on legislative and regulatory initiatives.
• Work closely with ANZ leadership and teams to ensure cohesive internal messages for key business and employee engagement initiatives, including ownership of all internal tools [e.g. Workplace] and events at a regional level.
• Lead communications approach and provide counsel, in consultation with Head of Communications, APAC, for internal and external crisis situations when required, including proactive planning for high-risk matters and reactive issues management.
• Identify, develop and oversee the execution of key partnerships that will further all corporate communications initiatives.
• Develop and maintain key relationships with media, government and industry bodies that are relevant to the above strategies.
• Develop clear KPI's and measures of success for all communications initiatives.
• Partner effectively with all internal functions, including content, marketing, PR, research, commercial and advertising teams in Japan and internationally.

Requirements:
• 10 years' experience in corporate communications / external affairs, media experience preferred.
• Independent thinker with a strategic mindset and strong advisory skills who can also follow through with project execution.
• Demonstration of devising and implementing creative and strategic communication plans, including understanding of corporate positioning requirements.
• Dynamic personality, adaptable with a high-degree of professionalism and a team player.
• Comfortable with a large, diverse workload and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders across a global company and timezone (including senior executives).
• Understanding of the regulatory and public policy and how these relate to and impact on ANZ business.
• Ability to build and nurture relationships with press and key stakeholders.
• Experience of crisis management. Flexibility under tight deadlines and the ability to respond to urgent issues with calm and professionalism.
• Ability to assess priorities and always maintain composure and diplomacy.
• Excellent written and communication skills in English.
