As a Broadcast Sound Operator, you will be instrumental in delivering flawless audio for live sporting events produced from WBD Sport's state-of-the-art studio facilities in West London. This is a dynamic, dual-function role that combines hands-on audio mixing with critical technical support across our Chiswick and Stockley Park locations.
In our Audio Mix Rooms, you will be responsible for the setup, mixing, and monitoring of live event audio, ensuring the highest quality sound for our global broadcasts. A key focus is delivering world-class audio content for premier sporting events. You will ensure the gallery team, commentators, and presenters have the required communications and that all audio is mixed and recorded to exacting standards.
Simultaneously, you will work from our Production Control Sound Rooms, supporting Audio Supervisors and engineering systems to ensure complex productions go live on air smoothly. This includes managing and troubleshooting our core broadcast technology, including Lawo consoles, Riedel talkback systems, and BNCS Control Systems, often within a high-pressure environment.
This shift-based role covers a diverse range of productions, from studio shows and cloud productions to gallery-only events. You will work on high-profile sports such as Champions League football, Grand Slam Tennis, motorsports, Cycling Grand Tours, and the Olympic Games. Occasional international travel may be required.

Your Accountabilities...
• Technical Oversight & Operation: Oversee the setup and hands-on delivery of critical audio infrastructure, including Riedel comms, Bolero packs, and live audio outputs for assigned productions.
• Workflow Optimisation: Collaborate with key stakeholders to streamline workflows, implement technical updates, and provide operational feedback.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous testing and troubleshooting to guarantee seamless audio delivery and promptly resolve technical issues during live broadcasts.
• System Support: Provide technical support for audio engineering systems, assisting Audio Supervisors to maintain stability and performance.
• Team Contribution: Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives across the audio department.
Qualifications & Experience…
• Client Liaison: Liaise with clients to gather technical requirements and create clear, efficient workflows for sound operators.
• Process Improvement: Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (including MAM, Ingest, Engineering, MCR, Programming, and Transmission) to maintain strong working relationships and effective communication.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor linear and digital platforms for service interruptions and report any issues promptly to the Sound Operations Manager.
• Professional Development: Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies related to broadcast operations.
• Health and Safety: Prioritise safety and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations. Required Skills and Experience:
• Technical Proficiency: A strong understanding of professional audio production processes, including audio routing, tagging, Riedel talkback, BNCS, and Lawo desks.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address technical challenges and ensure smooth operations in a live environment.
• Client Relations: The ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and production partners, understanding their specific needs to deliver exceptional results.
• Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.
• Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the highest quality audio delivery. Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 Years' Experience: A proven track record in broadcast audio, with at least three years of relevant experience.
• Technical Expertise: Direct experience operating Lawo desks, Riedel talkback systems, and Atos BNCS Network Control Systems.
• Passion for Audio: A genuine passion for audio and a strong understanding of modern audio production workflows.
