BIT Manager (TOC Manager)

Your New Role…

The BIT Manager is responsible for oversight and management of the daily operations, futures planning, projects, and staff for the Technical Operations Center (TOC). This position requires extensive knowledge of Broadcast Television, various transmission formats over satellite, fiber and IP, related transmit and receive equipment, Warner Bros. Discovery engineering infrastructure, transmission services and associated internal clients, vendors satellite inventory, vendor fiber networks, and industry contacts. In addition, a working knowledge of the fulltime and occasional use receive and transmit infrastructure that connects WBD locations, CNN bureaus and affiliates, vendors, and remote locations used for planned events and breaking news

Your Role Accountabilities…

The BIT Manager must be fully proficient in all the tasks and systems used by the TOC Team and a basic understanding of workflows for customer/consumer groups. The primary tasks are to provide transmission services and enable content across News, Sports and Entertainment, and work with the Leadership team in assigning Engineers/Operators/Specialists to work on daily and future transmission requests, assigned events, projects or other services. The position requires daily interaction with staff and clients in receiving and provisioning transmission requests.

Work closely with key customers, vendors, engineering and operations on the planning, oversight, execution, troubleshooting, and budgeting of transmissions across the group. Manage and track accurate cost accruals and billing to customers, working closely with Business Administration on billing, reports and reconciliation of disputes and discrepancies. Ability to delegate work across the team and manage conflict between staff, clients and vendors. Flexibility and understanding to propose or accept alternate transmission or technical solutions to meet customers' needs or budget. Must have strong management capabilities and the ability to hire, mentor and discipline staff.

Be fully proficient in the current and future Scheduling System(s) used for provisioning transmissions, cost accruals and billing. Extensive knowledge of the operation all technical internal and external systems used to deliver services. Document technical information and workflows used in the daily operation to provision and execute transmissions. The ability to design, propose and implement new workflows to gain efficiencies across the team, achieving their buy in as they are deployed. Must display leadership, work well under pressure, be able to multitask, be extremely detail oriented, have great organization skills, communicate effectively, and provide excellent customer service to our customers.

The BIT manager reports to the Director/VP and has team members assigned as direct reports to support the business. The position has leadership responsibilities which include handling PTO requests, approval of Time and Labor, annual reviews, mentoring, progressive discipline as well as interviewing for open positions and hiring. This position will work closely with People and Culture to foster an environment of inclusion, collaboration and innovation.

Qualifications & Experience…

College Degree

5 years in Broadcast TV transmissions and live remote events

Extensive knowledge of transmission systems, technologies and providers

Experience in contract negotiations and budget preparation

Ability to create technical drawings for transmission systems

Effective communicator with Senior Executives, Clients and Vendor

Technical field experience with remote transmissions and systems

TV Engineering knowledge, background or experience
