Job Description
Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) combines the best in artistry and storytelling with cutting-edge technology to bring wonderful new characters and adventures to the big screen for audiences around the world. Our Information Services team strives to design and develop solutions, as well as integrate 3rd party products, to optimize our internal business processes (e.g. Analytics, Production Management, HR, Training and Finance).

A Senior Data Engineer in Information Services (IS) will be expected to work closely with various stakeholders throughout the studio to understand their data needs, lead the design of appropriate data pipelines/solutions, and implement those plans in a timely manner. As the subject matter expert in this field, this role is expected to help our studio define best data practices and standards for teams to follow. We are looking for someone who is a flexible leader, has a natural curiosity to continually improve their craft, and enjoys sharing relevant finds with others.

Basic Qualifications:
• 5+ years of expertise in designing, building and maintaining optimized/highly available data pipelines that facilitate deeper analysis and reporting by various analytic teams
• Experience serving as a resource for various data technologies and collaborating with data owners, business owners, and leaders
• Strong level of experience scripting in Python
• Comfortable with SQL, Rest APIs, and GraphQL to extract data and build tables
• Solid experience with data integration toolsets and writing and maintaining ETL jobs
• Familiarity with Data Modeling techniques and Data Warehousing standard methodologies and practices
• Set a positive example in regards to advancing technical competence and using healthy debate to resolve differences and build consensus
• Deep partnership and empathy with stakeholders to gain understanding of workflows and requirements
• Deliver detailed updates and statuses on specific bugs, features, or tasks within a project.
• Mentor and nurture users within the studio who have an interest in data engineering and will look towards the person in this role for guidance and advice.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with one or more of these are a bonus
• Snowflake experience a plus
• Experience with developing for and deploying in cloud-native infrastructure like AWS, GCP, etc
• Experience with analytical tools like Tableau, R/R Studio
• Experience with distributed systems such as Spark, Hadoop (or similar) Ecosystem (MapReduce, Yarn, HDFS, Hive, Presto, Pig, HBase), or Apache Kafka
• Experience implementing environment for machine learning toolsets
