Job Description
The Vox Media communications team, which works across all of Vox Media's corporate divisions and editorial brands, is looking to hire a communications director with experience in corporate communications and media relations to develop and execute communications strategies to promote several editorial brands, including talent and editorial work, and corporate initiatives and priorities. This position will report to Vox Media's SVP of communications and can work remotely. It's preferred that the person is based in New York City or Los Angeles for in-person meetings and events.

WHO WE ARE

The communications director will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies for several Vox Media editorial brands (The Verge, PopSugar, The Dodo, SB Nation, Eater, Thrillist, Polygon), including developing communications roadmaps and brand positioning; pitching editorial content and talent to press; utilizing corporate newsroom initiatives; social media strategy and execution including identifying influencers in key industries we cover; and consulting on awards submissions.

The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge of, and interest in: the media, technology, and entertainment industries, the digital media landscape, and the news cycle.

This position is a unique opportunity to collaborate with a fast-paced team of communications professionals with experience across a variety of industries. It will also offer the chance to work alongside various departments and company leaders at a dynamic media company.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop a deep understanding of Vox Media's editorial brands, including The Verge, PopSugar, The Dodo, and more.
• Create and execute communications plans to support Vox Media editorial properties including The Verge, Popsugar, The Dodo, SB Nation, Eater, Thrillist, Polygon.
• Oversee a communications manager and support their career development.
• Work closely with editorial teams to thoughtfully develop PR opportunities, securing press for Vox Media's reporters, editors, and more across broadcast, audio, and digital.
• Cultivate relationships with reporters and producers, develop and maintain press lists.
• Cultivate relationships with less traditional media outlets, from email newsletters to YouTube shows to TikTok.
• Leverage major news moments and events to promote editorial talent.
• Produce content for Vox Media's corporate newsroom and social media channels, including writing press releases and blog posts, new hire announcements, and more.
• Consult with editorial teams on award submissions.
• Secure and manage relevant speaking opportunities at industry events.
• Maintain accurate and updated press assets, including bios, headshots, etc.
• Collaborate with team members on promotion of projects from the studios, audio, and brand licensing businesses.

WHO YOU ARE

Basic Qualifications:
• 5-7 years experience in public relations, communications or related field
• Strong relationships with consumer and trade press, as well as broadcast and audio producers
• Track record of securing press coverage in top-tier outlets
• Experience with G-suite and social media tools and platforms
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail being crucial
• Sound judgment and the ability to work under deadline, managing multiple projects
• Understanding of how news travels and where to find opportunities for Vox Media's editorial brands

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

This position can work remotely. It's preferred that the person is based in New York City or Los Angeles for shoots, in-person meetings and events.
