Role x You

The Manager, Audience Development will help lead audience growth and engagement strategies across multiple global distribution channels. In this role, you will deepen our engagement and loyalty across our social media channels, through syndication partners, across .com and through our newsletter products.

Role x Team

The Refinery29 Audience Development team drives strategic operations which help us grow and deepen our engagement with our audience, build the brand and lead the strategy behind our distribution channels. The team works closely with the R29 editorial and social teams, as well as with departments from across VICE Media Group.

In the short term you will…
• Work with a team of audience developments specialists globally to distribute content, grow audience and drive engagement, monitoring trends within channels, supporting social, email, affiliate and SEO.
• Arm editorial teams with relevant data, insights and learnings to increase the reach of our editorial content.
• Work with editorial and social teams to produce innovative content off platform, into new channel formats
• Own strategy and reporting of our newsletters (which may include the management of UK freelance newsletter manager).
• Attend weekly meetings with VMG audience teams to share insights/learnings.
• Own relationships with syndication partners, always looking at new ways to find underserved audiences and extend reach.
• Help collate a list of stories to be updated on a monthly basis and assign weekly update schedule to the editorial team.

After 6 months, you will…
• Lead the growth of our email database through tech partners, paid social and brand partnerships.
• Manage test and learn cycles with each distribution channel, aligning to departmental goals.
• Work closely with senior leadership to provide reporting on audience engagement and growth to executive leadership.
• Support the UK and US affiliate teams by giving feedback on upcoming content from an SEO and audience perspective and story recommendations.
• Updating monthly OKR trackers for UK, US & DE social and editorial.

And after a year you should be…
• Helping to set OKRs for the team and tracking their success.
• Helping manage and monitor budget spend.
• Working with the wider Senior Leadership team on future audience strategies

What you'll do: (D2D Responsibilities)
• Interpret, analyse and report on data from all R29 content types, ensuring insights are shared across teams.
• Help lead our SEO strategy, process implementation and reporting, working closely with editorial and affiliate.
• Create and update benchmarks for editorial and social performance.
• Lead daily syndication pitches to new distribution platforms, established media brands and influencers.
• Providing monthly category production, PV and impression numbers to finance.
• Champion audience insights across the wider business, regularly preparing reports for executive leadership teams.
• Keep the team abreast of industry trends and business developments that might affect performance of our digital presence.
• Manage audience and content insight requests across the business, supporting commercial pitching and editorial planning.
• Help maintain the insights library, refreshing with any new audience insights and top performing stories on a quarterly basis.

What you have:
• Experienced in using analytics platforms to interpret data
• Strong project management skills and experience managing budgets
• Experience working across multiple digital channels including a strong understanding of SEO, social and newsletter strategies
• Up to date with the latest social platform news and programming trends

We'd love if you also have these:
• 3-4+ years experience working in a digital media environment
• Energized working in a fast-paced, high volume operation
• A native understanding of social media and digital platforms
• Collaborative and open to feedback in pursuit of constantly pushing content to new heights
• Process orientated with the ability to juggle many tasks simultaneously
• Proven ability to extract data and create actionable insights
