Development Manager, Scripted TV
Overview:
Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of overseeing the life-cycle of development including script and book coverage, reading and evaluating pitches and overseeing a slate of projects from conception through development, sale and production. They should have excellent writing skills, with impeccable taste and good understanding of story. Additionally, they should have deep relationships within the TV & film community including network execs, managers and agents, filmmakers, writers, producers and production companies. This role will act as both a support layer under two senior scripted executives and will also be charged with bringing in and managing new development that align with the goals of the team.
Responsibilities:
• Write script, book and article coverage on an ongoing basis to actively track incoming submissions.
• Identify new material and partners for the studio including but not limited to writers, filmmakers and talent, as well as sourcing IP and tracking specs with the agencies.
• Ability to oversee the development life-cycle at all stages of a project including developing pitches, scripts, packaging projects with talent, and selling to buyers.
• Able to work both independently and collaboratively, has the ability to both lead projects and act as a support layer for senior executives.
• Strong research skills when developing scripted series off of true stories and/or life rights.
• Ability to work alongside a designer to build out pitch decks for new projects.
• Support packaging efforts across scripted TV slate by creating director, writer, producer and talent lists for new projects in development. Spearhead outreach to obtain attachments on projects.
Qualifications/Experience:
• 3-5 years hands-on scripted TV development experience, including prior agency, management, production company, studio and/or network experience.
• Experience in development across comedy and drama, half hour and hour long series.
• Highly engaged and interested in the Vice brand from an editorial and creative perspective.
• Passionate about books, theatre, film & TV. Eager to work alongside both emerging and more established voices.
• Strong track record of creative development, with direct examples of generating and sourcing ideas, internally and externally, and translating them into high-quality scripted series.
• An independent thinker and idea-generator with an equal ability to collaborate.
