Director 2 Software Engineering (Remote)

Division Overview:

CBSSports.com provides premium online and mobile content to the connected sports fan, including live and on-demand video, in-depth analysis, breaking news, and scores and statistics across high school, college, and pro sports. CBSSports.com is part of CBS Interactive's portfolio of multiplatform brands, which includes premier Fantasy offerings, high school sports leader MaxPreps, 247Sports, Scout and CBS Interactive Advanced Media producing more than 130 official collegiate athletic sites!

Role Details:

This leader will provide mission critical technical direction and technical support for design, upgrades, system administration, maintenance and failure recovery for CBS Sports Digital's Cloud Production Environment. Work closely with Live Event Operations Operations and Transmission for successful acquisition and delivery of day to day feeds to our networks. Oversee Cloud technology across multiple Availability Zones including switchers, graphics, ingest, audio, and comms as well Media Asset Management, workflow implementation, and maintenance. This position requires a strong leader with an ability to direct and motivate technical staff. Varied and extended hours may include weekends, holidays, on-call, and required travel!

This position can be fully remote.

Your Day-to-Day:
• 24/7 responsibility for integrity of automation, cloud video workflows and Production IT infrastructure.
• Provisioning, troubleshooting, operations and maintenance of systems, applications and equipment used in the next-gen video delivery ecosystem
• Build and support 24/7 linear networks and operations
• Lead and build an experienced devops team supporting advanced cloud production workflows and infrastructure.
• Create, maintain and forecast monthly operating expenses and provide detailed information as needed
• Oversee the management and development of devops and architecture design personnel – provide regular feedback to employees and management on performance and goals
• Strategize with production leadership to continue the drive towards long term advanced production technologies
• Drive innovation in the production space to create efficiencies across acquisition to delivery in cloud based workflows including Asset management, production switching and delivery.

Key Projects:
• Develop and implement current and long-range technical operation plans with an emphasis on emerging technology and competitive engineering systems including SMPTE 2110 IP Video and cloud production tech.
• Manage and assist in evaluation of new premise and off premise studio and newsroom technologies.
• Development, preparation, timely submission for approval and implementation of capital budget and OPEX projects
• Tracking purchase orders within each project to operate within budget
• Author and publish technical documentation
• Development of ticketing and support workflows to better assist production operations.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• 10+ years' experience working in premise and off premise production engineering and architecture.
• Dynamically and effectively communicate with production to meet the operational needs of the business.
• Make clear sound decisions under pressure and rapidly changing situations
• Must thrive in a fast-paced, team environment
• Must have a strong working knowledge for design and operation of advanced production systems including Asset Management, Automation, IP Video Workflows, and cloud platforms.
• Proficiency with premise encoding and decoding, ARQ codecs, AWS full suite architecture.
• Must have solid working knowledge of premise and off premise production technologies, Cloud scale and architecture.
• Proficiencies in Amazon Web Services such as, elastic compute, S3, cloudformation, and file systems.
