Job Description
Variety, the premier source of entertainment news for over a century, is hiring an Editor on the Focus team. The Focus team produces sections on specific industry topics and subjects, with heavy awards season coverage. Our coverage entails long-lead planning of magazine stories spotlighting trends, people, anniversaries, markets and festivals plus other entertainment industry topics. We are a separate unit from the news desk and web team, although we all collaborate on certain initiatives.

The Editor on the Focus team will proofread and edit stories for an issue focused on one subject, and take the section through from conception to published product.

Duties include:
• Assigning stories to freelancers or Variety staff
• Tracking assignments and hitting due dates
• Gathering art and working with photo department for visuals
• Editing features for clarity, grammar and focus
• Writing headlines and captions
• Duties also include posting stories to Variety.com

What we are seeking:
• 3+ years' experience in print publication
• Ability to juggle multiple deadlines
• Knowledge of InCopy and Microsoft Office helpful
• Strong proofreading skills necessary
• Good knowledge of entertainment industry necessary, as is curiosity and ability to collaborate

Typical wage range: $70k - $95k. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
