Job Description

Responsible for the creation, development and management of the Company’s slate of original, music-related, content ideas - pitching and winning business across genres with international broadcasters, SVODs, digital platforms and brands whilst contributing to the company’s longer term objectives for business growth, innovation and creative excellence.

You will be responsible for hiring and managing an international team of content developers to strategically create a slate of standout ideas with broad commercial appeal. The slate and your efforts will be informed by current trends and opportunities in the market, your relationship with buyers, opportunities brought to us by talent and the wider Universal Music Group. Your work is what helps make our content dreams come alive and will enhance our reputation as a home for creative excellence in the music content space.

Skills & Experience

Development Strategy
• You will use your knowledge and love of the music industry, understanding of current content trends and your creative vision to originate premium, sellable and producible long and short form content ideas
• You will brainstorm and articulate to your team, other senior members of the Company and the wider Universal Music Group, what kind of ideas need to be generated, what development work is required and where effort should be focussed
• Making decisions that are built on a strong and diverse commissioner / buyer network that you will continue to grow with a clear understanding of their content needs and how best to meet them

Long-form Content Development
• You will develop a broad slate of long-form content including TV shows, films, podcasts and live concert streams
• You will work with the Content Production team to transform your headline ideas into fully fledged proposals, attaching producers and directors and articulating their creative vision for the production on paper and tape
• Working with the Sales, Marketing and Distribution team you will spot content opportunities and help shape ideas

Digital Content Development
• Working alongside UMG’s creative and commercial arm you will work up exciting proposals for campaigns and brands that require engaging and entertaining digital content solutions
• Working with the Digital Content team you will work on linear TV formats that would be enhanced with an integrated multi-platform approach and on original short-form and mid-form music-based content commissions for digital platforms and broadcasters

Managing Development Budget
• Working with the Company’s Production team you will manage the annual budget and any additional development funding
• You will produce compelling taster tapes and presentations that powerfully showcase the vision of our ideas

Business Development
• You will look to leverage the Company’s music rights, talent relationships, library of archive and music knowledge to help secure commissions
• Working alongside the Creative Talent team, you will assess the market opportunity for ideas brought directly to the Company by artists, management, agents and labels within the Universal Music Group
• Working with the Creative Talent team you will look to secure exciting onscreen talent, whilst developing new ideas for this talent
• Alongside the Content Production and Digital Production teams you will look to expand our network of buyer relationships and explore the market potential for emerging platforms
• You will build relationships with leading independent producers whilst utilising their expertise in particular genres
