Role Summary

The General Manager for Universal Music Publishing Vietnam will be fully responsible for strategy and operations for Vietnam and as such shall manage the profitability, organic growth , and implementation of the strategy to attain positive results. The General Manager will ensure that all policies regarding image, sales and marketing are respected as well being responsible for developing and managing the turnover, the profitability, as well as the ongoing satisfaction of the licensees and songwriters .

The General Manager will be under leadership of the regional Managing Director to drive and optimize the development of synergies and transversal ties within the wider company; in order to allow for improvements at all levels.

About this role:
• Under the guideline from MD, sets policies, operations, create and maintain budgets
• Drives open and transparent communication within the regional team and externally across UMPG
• Leads and be responsible for the development and execution of signing local songwriters/original publishers, single and blanket licensing, society relationship, general business development and logistics
• Monitors the delivery of all operational activities

General and Business Management
• Negotiates on content license agreements and renewals with local platforms (TV, digital, and society).
• Develops and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and business partners.
• Understands the commercial deals in place with our various Digital Business Partners and ensure terms are agreed upon through the term sheets/ agreement
• Sets strategic plans and reviews with action plans, resolving problems, implementation of productions, productivity and goal targets to meet campaign & operational objectives.
• Works with key regional heads – A&R, Licensing, Digital, Business Development, Royalty Administration - to achieve operational and financial objectives

A&R (songwriters and works)
• Responsible for signing songwriters, producers and original publishing companies, establishing trusting relationships with those individuals and leveraging internal and external resources to help them
• Ensure deal memos and financial analysis are completed to all new songwriter and OPs signings
• Oversee and manage the usages of local songs, both released songs and un-released demos
• Accountability for the realization of targeted budgets and forecasting of A+R investment expenditure throughout the financial year
• Driving and creating a catalog acquisition strategy

Finance
• Under regional head of finance, accomplishes business objectives by establishing strategic plans, budgets, and results in measurements; allocating resources; and reviewing progress
• Accountable for the entire P&L of UM Vietnam

Marketing
• Collaborate with key regional heads across A&R, Digital, and Licensing, to promote international and local songwriters and works, creating awareness in the industry.
• Understand and analyze the constant flow of streaming, sales, radio and social data and adjust marketing strategies accordingly.

New Business and Non-Recording Income (NRI)
• Targeting agencies and brands with considered business pitches
• Creating tangible commercial opportunities out of the songwriters and songs, through innovative idea generation
• Responding to briefs in a professional manner, harnessing all the assets and knowledge within the Universal business
• Constructing Heads of Agreements and Long-form contracts, in consultation with Business Affairs, to formalize relationships
• Maintenance of client database and revenue tracker
• Fostering close relationships with a variety of agency partners through proactive, regular contact

Desirable Traits:
• At least 5 years of related experience
• Strong knowledge of the Vietnamese and International music industry
• Excellent written & verbal English and Vietnamese to communicate locally as well as across regions; Chinese would be a plus.
• Extensive connections with TV/film companies, DSPs and music labels in Vietnam
• Proven results of identifying songwriters in Vietnam
• Excellent leadership skills
• Experience with entertainment business practices, trading terms and conditions
• Experience with music publishing in general
• Excellent relationship with local authority and copyright society.
