Job Description
How you'll LEAD:

UMG is embarking on a multiyear journey to build an advanced analytics and data driven discipline to all aspects of our business. To support this effort, cross-functional teams have been tasked with rapidly building, testing, and scaling high-priority use cases and the supporting data infrastructure.

As a Data Scientist you will be part of the newly formed Data Science and Advanced Analytics team, which is responsible for delivering machine learning and statistical analysis capabilities across UMG. You will develop machine learning algorithms to model the interaction between artists and fans, across UMG's multiple geographical markets, products and channels, including natural language processing and sentiment analysis technologies. You will work the process from data ingestion, exploratory data analysis, algorithm design and development, model deployment, to performance monitoring (model retraining/drift detection/etc.) You will collaborate with data strategy and partnership teams, business analytics teams, and data infrastructure teams, distributed across several geographical locations.

The Data Scientist will report to the VP of Data Science and Advanced Analytics.

Please note, this position is located in Charlotte, NC / remote.

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data science models to solve business problems. Additionally, you'll act as a data science subject matter expert by championing data science best practices. You will primarily develop on Google Cloud Platform and other technologies such as BigQuery, Airflow, Python, SQL, Spark/PySpark, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes.

How you'll CREATE:
• Proactively analyze existing & new datasets to find new modeling opportunities that drive fan engagement
• Collaborate with other scientists, ML engineers, and program managers to execute UMG's data science roadmap.
• Autonomously drive the development of machine learning models on a cloud based infrastructure.
• Help manage model deployment and perform post-deployment monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Document designs and findings, and present to team leadership, fellow scientists, and partner teams. Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and brainstorming sessions.
• Build compelling data stories and visualizations to influence decision makers.
• Work with other functional teams to evaluate new data sources and advice on data format and data dictionary.
• Proactively remove roadblocks and escalate issues when encountered.
• Strive to keep abreast with the latest development in the machine learning and artificial intelligence community, bringing new ideas to the team and advocating for best practices.
• Ask a lot of questions.
• Troubleshoot data science models as needed to address any abnormal results/actions

Bring your VIBE:
• Creatively apply science/machine learning/AI principles to solve business problems
• Master's or PhD Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field is preferred
• 2+ years of experience in building unsupervised and supervised learning algorithms, such as clustering, regression, classification, and recommendation, in a commercial production setting.
• Proficient in python and its data science and visualization stack, as well as frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch
• Working experience using version control systems (Git)
• Experience building products and are comfortable working with modern development tools and writing code collaboratively
• Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills, have a hunger to learn, and the ability to operate in a self-guided manner in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment
