The Job

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our operations team in building out and supporting our digital video platforms used to empower our Brands across WarnerMedia. This group is responsible for providing a dedicated and consistent model for supporting, operating, and monitoring all of our Digital Platform Products. Specifically, this team manages intake, product/workflow adoption, live event management, and quality for our large-scale video platform (i.e. stream, player/client, service, mobile, data and entitlement products). We partner closely with various business units and the development teams to provide that bridge needed to integrate the core technologies.

Your role will focus on translating business requirements into video workflows using our automation tools, advancing our tech stack through process improvement, adopting new industry standard that will push innovation forward, and providing best in class support for our Brands and partners. You will work with architects to design proof on concepts for testing new workflows that we can later to full scall production for our Brands and partners. You will be responsible for media transcoding, video workflow automation and support for a wide variety of platforms. You should have a strong understanding of streaming technologies such as CMAF/DASH/HLS, video compression/codecs/quality and DRM technologies to that we can protect the content of our Brands. The Daily
• Partner with product teams in the requirements gather phase of new product development
• Work with architecture teams to design end to end solutions that we can take from the proof of concept phase to large scale production
• Utilize existing and cutting-edge video technologies that we can integrate into our automation tools so that we can support and operate our live events at scale
• Influence technology, process, standards, and best practices across WarnerMedia to build upon our existing platform stack
• Develop support plans and procedures for new video workflows and the systems that will power them
• Analyze and consult on implementation and troubleshooting of technology products
• Serve as subject-matter resource for current and future state and trends in the digital video landscape
• Collaborate with key stakeholders (cross functional teams ranging from management to platform teams and clients) to define, develop, shape and refine requirements of complex products at the heart of WarnerMedia's business, both domestically and globally
• Real-time incident management and root cause analysis with development and infrastructure teams
• Integrate system-wide monitoring into video workflows for real-time feedback
• Serve as an operational support engineer for making best-in-class technical decisions and operational recommendations
• Provide technical guidance and assistance for other teams as new workflows are built out
• Mentor and train other engineering staff on technical and procedural matters
• M-F/9-5 EST type role with extended hours as needed during crunch times and live events
• Be part of the on-call rotation to support our video workflow outside normal business hours

The Essentials
• 7+ years' experience in video encoding or media with a strong understanding of live event and on-demand workflows for digital distribution
• Required to have strong understanding of various audio and video containers/codecs used in professional and consumer environments (E.g. MPEG, H264, H265, TS containers. J2K, ProRes, MP2, MP4 video codecs. Dolby E, AAC, AC3, EC3 audio codecs)
• Required to have a strong understanding of streaming technologies such as CMAF, DASH, HLS, RTMP, SRT
• Required to have experience with Live and VOD stand-alone and cloud video encoding solutions like FFMPEG, Elemental Technologies, AWS MediaLive, MediaPackage, MediaConvert, Digital Rapids, Telestream, Harmonic, and similar products
• Should have strong knowledge of DRM technologies such as FairPlay, Widevine, Playready, CPIX and move
• Should possess broadcast technology knowledge to help interface with their technology stack for source acquisition
• Understanding of media delivery using cloud services or CDNs is a plus
• Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills to be able to bridge gaps between business owners and engineering teams
• Hands on experience supporting live events at scale and managing and supporting the video encoding platforms that power them
• Can function in high pressure environment, but also learn quickly and embraces new challenges
• Ability to work autonomously with internal and external technical teams to develop systems which satisfy workflow requirements while also meeting deadlines
• Must be methodical and have good troubleshooting skills to address media issues
• Must possess strong knowledge of Linux operating systems
• A plus to have scripting knowledge to aid in testing automation tools and APIs
• Has a passion for learning, sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a team setting with engineers of varying levels of experience
• Demonstrate expertise in analyzing and solving complex technical problems
• Have the ability to see the ''forest'' (big picture) and the ''trees'' (smaller details)
