The Mill's flagship studio, Mill London, opened its doors in 1990. Located in London's Fitzrovia, the studio is home to over 300 creators working across Mill VFX, Mill Direction and Mill Experience projects. The Mill's London home overlooks the iconic BT tower, and is surrounded by some of the best eateries in town. The London creative community often gathers on The Mill's rooftop bar and terrace, which plays host to a number of industry and staff events.

What you'll do

As a Technical Operator you will create and adapt media, acting in support to Production and Editorial departments within the business.

You will be reporting to the Head of Media Technology, ensuring all media leaving the area is correct to spec and created to the highest standards and ensuring open communication between the team.

Responsibilities:
• Work to the highest standard with all ingest and encoding systems
• Quality Control UK and International Broadcast media and Mill Reach media to the highest standard
• Act promptly and accurately when responding to requests for EDL, audio, file-movement requests from the wider company
• Keep internal clients informed about job progress and inform of technical issues
• Ensure accurate and detailed reporting is completed when directed
• Help create and maintain a proactive and professional environment based on client service and technical excellence
• Prepare files to technical specifications defined by television stations and clients
• Ensure all material produced is of the highest technical quality
• Input metadata for encodes onto the asset management system
• Understand in house scheduling and media asset management systems
• Keep up to date with 2D support related workflows and practices

Qualifications

What you'll need
• Experience in Quality Control UK and International Broadcast media
• An in-depth knowledge of transcoding
• High attention to detail
• Exemplary time management skills with the ability to prioritize conflicting tasks

Communication:
• To keep internal clients – beam or mill - informed about job progress and give them as much advance warning as possible if it will not meet its deadline or if there are any technical issues.
• To ensure the smooth hand over between different shifts and keep everyone updated on jobs in progress, jobs on hold, machine faults etc. This should be done both verbally and by preparing a clear shift report.
• To liaise with beam Traffic regarding any issues with jobs or information on worksheets.
• To liaise with supervisors regarding communication with internal clients concerning on-going tasks.
• To report and log any faults to a Supervisor or Head of MT and to the relevant mill or beam contact.

General:
• To keep the work area organised and tidy at all times.
• Arrive to start your shift on time and to call in and report any lateness or sickness verbally to the Head of MT or a Supervisor.
• To keep up to date with the latest developments within The Mill. It is important to have an overview of the whole company.
• To always act in a supportive and client sensitive way ensuring prompt service from the department.
