Accounting / Tax Supervisor

Job Description

We are looking for an Accounting/Tax Supervisor for our National Shared Service Center (NSSC) located in the Metro Indianapolis Area, with experience in commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within financial reporting and accounting. The role requires strong problem solving, analytical and organizational skills. The position supervises the general ledger accounting staff and functions, including indirect tax. Responsible for monthly financial close.

Responsibilities:
• Supervise approximately accounting professionals responsible for the monthly financial close of the TEGNA business units. Direct their job duties including planning, scheduling, coaching and training.
• Establish and maintain relationships with business unit personnel, and interface with unit personnel to resolve accounting issues as they arise during normal operations. Prepare various monthly reports and analysis for internal and external management and audit groups.
• Supervise staff during the month end closing process including review of journal entries, profit and loss schedules and overall timeliness of data provided to the business units. Position will be required to handle some month end functions personally.
• Review and approve month end balance sheet reconciliations. May complete more complex reconciliations with Director of Financial Shared Services review.
• Manages the indirect tax responsibilities for TEGNA as well as supervising an accountant assigned those duties
• Ability to analyze staff's functions with a vision of streamlining processes.
• Assist with internal/external audits and insure ongoing compliance with Sarbanes Oxley, GAAP, and established company policies.
• Perform other duties as required, including special projects.

Job Requirements:

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree is required in accounting or business related concentration.
• Minimum 3 years of accounting supervisory experience required in a shared service environment preferred.
• CPA qualification a plus.
• Good problem solving, organizational and time management skills. Analytical and detailed oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on superior customer service.
• Excellent knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
• Knowledge of Sales/Use Tax, Property Tax and Unclaimed Property a plus
• Strong MS Office skills required.
• Solid balance sheet account reconciliation background.
• Oracle general ledger knowledge preferred.
• Shared service experience a plus.
