KGW is looking for a producer to help craft an exceptional daily newscast in Portland, OR. The ideal candidate for this job is collaborative, creative, detail-oriented and will be engaged in the Portland community. KGW and TEGNA are on a mission to move local news forward on both traditional linear and digital platforms. We are looking for a candidate who embraces new technology and is excited about the future of local journalism.
Responsibilities:
• Craft a daily newscast that is informative, engaging and entertaining
• Use creative production techniques, graphics and video to enhance your newscast.
• Collaborate with and take feedback from your managers, anchors and other colleagues on a daily basis
• Engage in the daily editorial meetings and regularly pitch stories or ideas for coverage
• Act quickly and decisively when covering breaking news
• Possess strong writing and grammar skills
• Ensure every story in your newscasts is presented accurately and fairly
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communications, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum 2 years of news producing experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong journalistic and ethical judgement
• Understanding of the state of the local television industry, including trends around streaming, mobile news and social media
• Experience stacking, writing and manning the control room for local newscasts
• Strong social media skills, including following local accounts for story ideas
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and stay composed under pressure
• Experience with the following systems is a plus: ENPS, Edius, Chyron, TEGNA One, Social News Desk
