Job Description

The S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applications for a full-time Professor of Practice in the Television, Radio and Film (TRF) department to start August 22, 2022.

Candidates should have significant professional experience as a leader in one or more of the following entertainment business areas:

· strategic planning

· business operations

· business development/strategic partnerships

· distribution/acquisitions in domestic and/or international markets

· content licensing/financing

· immersive media

· talent management

Candidates must demonstrate:

The potential to bring national and/or global visibility to the school through their professional credibility and relationships, and ability to maintain that.

Evidence of excellent teaching skills or the potential to develop them.

A capacity and willingness to perform a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students, Newhouse and university committee work, professional and community engagement.

Strong teamwork and team building skills, as the strength of the Newhouse School lies in the interconnection of faculty members. This Professor of  Practice will work with existing members of the entertainment business faculty in the TRF department, as well as faculty in related fields outside the department.

Responsibilities

This faculty member will teach six classes in an academic year. Course content will be based on the professor’s areas of expertise and might include introductory and intermediate entertainment business courses, the department’s entertainment business Capstone course or other topics that reflect evolving and emerging media business trends. This hire will teach both undergraduate and graduate students, and be engaged in departmental, school and university service duties.

 The faculty member will be expected to maintain and demonstrate connectivity to the entertainment business. This should include:

Developing initiatives and building relationships with leading entertainment professionals and organizations, including student-focused engagement leading to student internships and job opportunities.

Apprising department colleagues of industry business trends and evolving practices on a regular basis.

Initiating and participating in collaborations between faculty members, departments and schools throughout Newhouse, its satellite campuses in New York City and Los Angeles, and the university, including Syracuse Abroad.

Contribute to industry partnerships connected to the SULA, Newhouse in NYC and American High satellite programs.

Promote and strengthen the school’s reputation throughout the entertainment industry.
