POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Graphic Designer is charged with managing all graphic design tasks, refining projects and drafts, and leading the development of creative ideas of the highest quality across creative assets for all Sundance Institute programs, including print and digital media. This position oversees one year-round staff member and a small seasonal team to help carry out this work.

Working closely under the Creative Director, the Senior Graphic Designer oversees the design team to ensure the graphic assets they create across all print and digital platforms promote the vision of Sundance Institute and its programs.

This full-time is based in the greater Salt Lake City, UT area in order to work onsite in a hybrid capacity as needed throughout the year. There will be ample opportunity for remote work. Additionally this role will be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, at key points throughout the year to meet deadlines and respond to on-call needs. Travel to work onsite at other Institute offices, events, and programs may also be required on occasion.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Generating design work for all Sundance Institute programs and initiatives including the Sundance Film Festival.
• Guiding the development of and actively participating in the creation of design assets for all Sundance Institute Marketing materials including, but not limited to, print and digital ads, social assets, environmental graphics, signage, merchandise design, special event branding and invitations, video tags, email templates, and digital presentations.
• Leading design resource management, including partnering with project managers and strategy leads in the development of a marketing calendar that is sustainable and ensures timely delivery.
• Managing the workload of the design team.
• Ensuring design output from the seasonal design team is cohesive and meets our design standards and guidelines.
• Overseeing the production of graphic systems and design asset kits.
• Overseeing accessibility standards for all design work and partnering with accessibility consultants as needed.
• Reviewing and approving graphics created and used by outside vendors, partners, and outlets to ensure they are applied appropriately.
• Developing training materials and conducting training for Sundance Film Festival design employees to ensure the team is clear on their responsibilities, processes, and expectations.
• Managing year-round and seasonal employees including selecting and training highly effective graphic designers, providing direction, feedback, and support to ensure employees understand responsibilities and are effective in their roles.
• Working to reduce bottlenecks in the creative approval process during high volume and high output periods.
• Planning or conducting venue site visits as part of planning and overseeing installation of environmental graphics to ensure quality.
• Partnering with external design vendors to ensure quality, including overseeing or organizing press checks with onsite employees.

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 4-5 years graphic design experience.
• Experience creating graphic assets for digital platforms.
• Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Express, and familiarity with other emerging technologies such as Canva.com and Figma.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Leadership skills to effectively manage and motivate a team.
• Effective presentation skills to cohesively demonstrate concepts and gain alignment from a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Exceptional project management, organizational, and time management skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously and work in a fast-moving, constantly changing environment.
• Ability to assess processes and come up with creative solutions.
• Knowledgeable in printing production methods, fabrication, and installation.
• A graphic design portfolio that demonstrates creativity and versatility of skills as well as digital design expertise.

• Effectively guide the team to meet set deadlines and bring the team together around common goals.

• Coach and mentor team members to ensure their growth and development.

*Final rate of pay is determined based on the applicant's geographic location, relevant experience and skills, and internal equity among similar positions within our organization.
