POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager, Impact, Engagement, and Advocacy is charged with the planning and implementation of the Impact, Engagement, and Advocacy (IEA) Department’s key programs, with emphasis on artist advocacy, field building in independent film and media arts, and community and audience engagement.

Working closely under the Director, Engagement and Advocacy, the Manager also oversees the Independent Film and Media Arts Field Group, a partnership with the National Arts Endowment, and manages international advocacy initiatives.

This position works full time and will be based out of our New York, NY office with regular opportunities to work from home. Additionally this role will be expected to work onsite and extended and flexible hours including evenings and weekends around key events and deadlines. Travel to other Institute offices and events may also be required.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…
• Managing the Institute’s artists advocacy and field-building programs with local, national, and international partners, including the Independent Film and Media Arts Field Group (IMAG), a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, and the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk (ICFR), as well as other projects advancing the rights, roles and responsibilities of artists and freedom of creative expression.
• Conducting ongoing outreach to industry, partner organizations, and artists to ensure regional range across the United States and inclusion of and representation by historically excluded artists, collectives, and organizations.
• Proactively developing opportunities for collective action on artist advocacy of and by the Institute and with partners.
• Identifying and tracking resources and opportunities for artists and independent film and media arts organizations, with particular attention to sustainability and racial equity, and developing related field and artist engagement programming.
• Supporting the Festival Community Program engagement strategy for multiple cities, including identifying new organizational relationships, maintaining pre-existing ones, and supporting the design and execution of collaborative programs in communities.
• Managing key engagement partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, with focus on racial equity and racial justice, in all locations.
• Managing assigned budget within the IEA Department and serving as a liaison with Finance on program accounting and completing monthly expense reports.
• Reviewing various Institute granting, fellowship, and public programming applications as needed.
• Representing the Institute as needed at conferences, festivals, events, and other public gatherings.
• Collaborating across departments and external partners to design programs including developing run of shows, identifying and casting talent, and liaising with Marketing to promote and develop content.
• Managing customer relationship management (CRM) and project management applications for assigned projects, as needed.

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 3 years experience in independent film (programming, distribution, production), nonprofit program management, arts and culture programming, community organizing, or audience engagement.
• Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a wide variety of people and organizations.
• Strong public presentation and research skills.
• Commitment to mission-based programming, with a focus on racial equity and deep community engagement.
• Proficiency in standard project management apps, such as Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent organizational skills including meeting deadlines, following through on tasks, and strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording, tracking, and issuing information.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Ability to speak, read, or write in a language additional to English a plus.
