POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Digital Engineering will be a hands-on technical leader for the engineering of Sundance Institutes digital products portfolio for web, mobile, and OTT devices. This position will organize a combination of in-house, contract, and third-party vendors, directly overseeing a small team of internal employees.
Working closely under the direction of the Chief Product and Technology Officer, the Director of Digital Engineering will build, grow, and perfect the platform that supports both in-person and online components of the Sundance Film Festival, the Collab online learning environment, data platforms, and other software development projects and initiatives.
This position works full-time and will be required to work extended hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet key deadlines. This is a fully remote position that does not require any onsite work duties.
Top priorities include but are not limited to
• Leading and providing architectural direction for all of the Sundance Institute software engineering efforts.
• Working closely with all departments and the Digital Product team to fully understand the organizational needs and act as a technical advisor.
• Collaborating closely with the Digital Product management team, including the Director of Technology Services and the Director of Digital to understand requirements and priorities.
• Managing in-house development employees, including the quality assurance and data team, and organizing the engineering work across in-house, contractors, and vendors to meet timelines and quality standards.
• Continually analyzing current software to improve and ensure quality.
• Providing realistic estimates for completing technical initiatives based on resources, and leading implementation.
• Providing guidance on the future of the Sundance Festival platform initiatives and staying up-to-date on latest technologies.
• Developing and leading a multi-year strategy to plan and prioritize initiatives and manage operations for Digital Engineering.
• Staying up-to-date on best practices and emerging trends in the field to help inform strategy.
• Creating, planning for, and adhering to realistic budgets, making adjustments as necessary.
You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:
• Legal authorization to work in the United States
• 5 plus years of hands-on software development experience
• 3 - 5 years of experience working on large-scale user-facing websites or applications.
• 3 years of experience in leading software development teams in web development, full-stack, mobile, or OTT applications.
• Experience in guiding architectural direction for web, mobile, or OTT applications.
• Experience leading Quality Assurance.
• Experience integrating with one or more major content management system (WordPress, Contentful, Drupal, etc.)
• Experience working with data systems and implementing the collection and reporting of data.
• Experience implementing software monitoring tools
• Experience running applications on cloud services such as AWS, Azure, Google, etc.
• Ability to work across teams and manage a variety of shifting needs.
• Experience with e-commerce platforms.
• Ability to understand technical requirements and provide realistic level of effort (LOE).
• Ability to make difficult technical decisions.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong analytic skills and the ability to balance intuition with data.
• Strong leadership skills including prior experience directly managing others preferred.

In addition to an annual salary of $130,000.00 to $180,000.00*, this position is eligible for our comprehensive benefits package, highlights include:
