Summary of Position

Starz Entertainment is looking for highly motivated and talented hands-on Manager of Site Reliability Engineering, reporting to the Executive Director of Cloud Infrastructure. The #1 job of the team is to ensure excellent customer experiences which is accomplished working cross-functionally with a variety of teams. We obsess over building high availability, fault tolerant cloud-based systems and services. The Manager of Site Reliability Engineering will be responsible for the availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, capacity planning, and incident response of the Starz App and other applications at Starz.

Responsibilities
• Directly manage a team of 3-5 SRE's.
• Attend various application standups on a daily basis keeping abreast of issues and deployments.
• Act as main point of contact for our off-shore team of Tier-1 Systems Operations Engineers.
• Work as a liaison between System Operations, Site Reliability Engineering, Application Development, Cloud Engineering, Sr. Management and third party vendors to ensure systems are performing optimally and all stakeholders have transparency to system reliability and performance.
• Take the lead in developing effective tooling, dashboards, alerts, and response to identify and address reliability risks.
• Apply the SRE principle of eliminating toil by identifying repetitive work and building tools / automation systems to reduce operational tasks; improve automatic issue identification and routing, and predict platform performance in accordance to SLAs based on overall platform health and progress.
• Provide the management team monthly SLA reporting for Applications, Infrastructure and third party integrations.
• Oversee on-call rotation to manage incidents and handle unknown/new issues.
• Take the lead and participate in predictive capacity scaling exercises to ensure system capacity when new content launches.
• Rotate as Manager on-call for critical events and escalations as needed.
• Drive issue resolution and root cause identification with the various data infrastructure teams and partners.
• Perform deep dives into both systemic and network issues; partner with Software Engineering and Infrastructure Engineers across the organization to deliver solutions.
• Identify and drive opportunities to improve automation for deployment, management, tooling, and visibility of both our internal and external customers.
• Provide technical leadership to a team of engineers to deliver the best in class system monitoring and problem resolution.

Qualifications & Skills
• Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to affect an organization's culture and deliver results.
• Effective at root cause identification, triage, and mitigation.
• Software development experience in automation, tools, and/or dashboards.
• Understands large-scale public facing systems from a reliability perspective (Multi-Region Active/Active).
• Demonstrable knowledge of SQL/NoSQL, TCP/IP, HTTP, web application security, and experience supporting multi-tier web application architectures.
• Solid understanding of systems and application design, including the operational trade-offs of various designs.
• Solid knowledge of Python, Terraform, and shell scripting.
• Track record of successful practical problem solving, excellent written and interpersonal communication, and documentation skills.
• Strong desire for continuous infrastructure and security improvement in a fast-paced dynamic organization.
• Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (Amazon AWS preferred, or Azure, Google Cloud Platform, etc.)
• Experience with APM and Synthetics monitor (Splunk APM / SignalFX and Splunk Synthetics preferred)
• Experience with Log aggregation tools (Splunk Cloud Core preferred)
• Demonstrable knowledge of one or more container and orchestration technologies (Docker, Elastic Beanstalk, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Bamboo and Bitbucket preferred)
• BS/MS in Engineering/computer science (or equivalent)
