Summary of Position

As a member of the Starz Broadcast IT Engineering team, you will be collaboratively responsible for engineering, design, installation, configuration, documentation, troubleshooting and systems maintenance for On-Air Origination, Post-Production, Media Encoding, Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), Disaster Recovery, Electronic Graphics, and all interconnecting data Networks.

Responsibilities
• Extensive IP Network and Ethernet connectivity troubleshooting skills, including: TCP/IP, UDP, VLANs, and multicasting

• Extensive support of multi-channel automation systems, components, and workflows, with the ability to quickly execute troubleshooting procedures

• Monitoring & Control system configuration and support to maintain a stable, reliable on-air product

• Strong working knowledge of commonly used IP, SD/HD/UHD SDI video and digital audio protocols and standards

• Working knowledge and support of Cloud-based computing and storage environments

• Competence in navigating Storage Area Network file systems, Fiber Channel infrastructure and workflows encompassing file ingest, transcoding and delivery

• Familiarity with SAN Metadata Controller management, Asset Management and File Archiving/LTO procedures and support

• Experience working with and troubleshooting Network Management Systems (NMS), SNMP MIBs, OIDs, traps and WMI

• Ability to work in multiple domains to configure/troubleshoot Windows, Mac, and Linux PC workstation/server applications, operating systems and hardware components

• Direct technical support of QC and closed captioning systems, QA, post production video and audio editing systems, and graphics systems with file-based workflows

• Creation and use of standard operating procedures, technical reference documents and drawings

• Work closely with vendors and/or internal departments for optimum hardware/software configuration and support

Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or similar technical field and/or equivalent experience

• Minimum three years of experience as a hands-on IT engineer in a broadcast and/or post-production environment

• Minimum two years of experience with configuring and troubleshooting Ethernet Network switches and routers

• Minimum two years of experience with configuring and troubleshooting Storage Area Networks, Network Attached Storage and Fiber Channel switches

• Minimum two years of experience with building, setup and configuration of Windows, Mac and Linux servers and/or workstations

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually with minimal supervision

• Ability to adapt quickly to new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and online resources

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills

• Strong organizational skills and proficiency in establishing priorities with multiple projects under tight deadlines
Other Requirements
• Work at any time in a 24 X 7 staffed environment

• Working knowledge of Cloud-based services, architectures, workflows and applications for linear and non-linear content storage, transcoding and delivery

• Working knowledge and experience with Ethernet packet analysis and/or Network performance management tools such as Wireshark, NetScout, InfoBlox, and LogicMonitor

• Intermediate to advanced level Networking, SAN and/or other relevant training courses a plus

• Use SD/HD SDI waveform monitors to evaluate and interpret video and audio quality

• Use SD/HD SDI routing switchers and patch panels to connect SD/HD SDI sources to destinations

• Install and configure video/audio equipment

• Fabricate custom video/audio and Ethernet copper cable assemblies

• Perform routine, regular systems checks to document any anomalies

• Interact with Starz affiliates, providing routine satellite receiver information and authorizations

• Working knowledge of video and audio encoding compression standards

• Working knowledge of MPEG-4 encoders, MPEG Transport Stream analyzers and satellite transmission equipment
