Music Expression is focused on enabling creative expression through and around music by artists, aspiring creators, and fans. Our products are used at scale - over 1,000,000 active artists in Spotify for Artists, and more than 406,000,000 listeners.

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will partner with our leadership team to develop and implement foundational insights strategies for our portfolio of products. The ideal candidate enjoys working closely with stakeholders; leading insights strategy; collaborating with cross-functional leads and peers; and mentoring others.

You will lead a quantitative strategy and a system of metrics for our products, making sure we have the right instrumentation and data pipelines. You will dive deep into our existing data to develop a behavioral understanding of our customers, as well as to forecast and predict the value that our tools & formats deliver to them & Spotify. You will work on metadata and features annotation that will help us understand the content being crafted better and make it easy to build ML models around it. You will also aid in the set up, execution and maintenance of key dashboards. In doing so, you will have a proven impact on making Spotify a platform where creative expression shines.

As part of the team, you will partner with engineers, product teams, and designers to help us define the next generation of music expression products. You will also collaborate with senior leads across business units to influence direction. You'll also be connected to the broader Spotify insights community to expand the influence of your team's work.

What You'll Do:
• Gain a deep understanding of how our tools & formats influence creator & user behavior by extracting insights from rich datasets to drive the Music Expression roadmap
• Help identify the most impactful opportunities for product development based on creators & listeners needs, and complete them diligently and resourcefully
• Partner closely with the other data scientists and data engineers to help advise, build, and test hypotheses and deliver concrete insights to fuel our products
• Define the metrics we use to measure the health of initiatives and supervise them through dashboards
• Work closely with cross-functional teams of data scientists, researchers, product owners, engineers, designers, marketers, and others across the company who are passionate about our marketplace
• Mentor and coach data scientists and tackle leadership opportunities within the larger data science community
• Apply understanding of advanced machine learning practices to improve product performance
• Be an advocate for data-informed decision-making, making recommendations about the product performance and product experience available to the Music organization

Who You Are:
• 4+ years of proven ability in a similar data scientist role
• Degree in data science, computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, or a similar quantitative field
• Significant experience with sophisticated statistical methods and machine learning
• Significant experience with product analytics, including crafting success metrics, running power analyses, determining statistical significance, and presenting findings with clear product recommendations or implications
• Previous experience working with a team of data scientists and data engineers building machine learning tools in production and at scale
• You have hands-on experience synthesizing insights from data using tools such as Python, R, BigQuery, SQL, Tableau
• Strong communication skills and value building positive relationships with colleagues and partners as well as the ability to explain sophisticated topics in straightforward terms
• You're a compelling storyteller who can communicate in succinct and inspiring ways to audiences with varied data science experience to influence real-world product or feature decisions
• Comfortable working with distributed teams across multiple offices and time zones

The United States base range for this position is $134,235 - $191,765, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance.
