Who are we hiring?
The primary responsibility of the Senior Manager of Rigging & Automation is to assist the Director of Lighting in establishing and maintaining the safe and consistent operations of all rigging and automation systems for all performances at Sphere; Maintain the equipment and cueing to preserve the artistic integrity of the show automation system.
What will you do?
• Assist Director in staffing of the rigging department internal and external labor requirements.
• Assist the coordination the rigging & automations crew working on maintenance, rehearsals and events.
• Scheduling and training of staff as required.
• Be available and flexible for work schedules, work calls, training, maintenance and performances.
• Operate or oversee the automations control console during load in/out and performances and ensure training of multiple back up technicians.
• Prioritize and assign maintenance and inspection of automation systems, including safety systems, moving scenic elements, hydraulic systems, winches and motors, and remote-control devices, on a regular schedule to ensure all rigging and automation equipment within the Sphere is in perfect working order.
• Work closely with the Artistic team and Stage Management in supporting their needs during rehearsals and performances.
• Maintain safety procedures for rigging staff: enforce fall protection protocols, the use of PPE, develop emergency rescue plan, etc.
• Ensure automation department documentation is current and all equipment certifications are up to date.
• Coordinate the administrative needs of the department including purchasing, paperwork, disciplinary matters, vacation requests, daily electronic payroll for staff, labor and material estimations and specifications for production management, etc.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Production Video, Lighting, Audio, Rigging, Display Technicians
What do you need to s/ucceed?
• Must have a minimum 7+ years working experience in touring or stage physical production including a minimum of 2 years' experience as head of an automation/rigging department, Chief/Lead/Head Rigger, etc. with large scale productions.
• Must be proficient in the installation and operation of rigging and automation related equipment – ETCP Arena or Theater Rigging certification required.
• Must possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills, be self-motivated, highly organized, and able to delegate.
• Knowledge of OSHA health and safety protocols.
• OSHA 30 certification is preferred but not required at time of hire - it can be completed during employment.
• Experience managing TAIT Navigator control systems preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of rigging, fall-arrest, safety equipment and protocols (to be used for access and maintenance of venue systems and equipment)
• Analytical knowledge of theatrical rigging plots. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bl/uebeam, Vectorworks a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required. May have split days off.
• Commitment to providing a high-quality service experience for both internal and external clients.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
• Ability to work at height (upwards of 200'-300'+) on interior and exterior catwalks, aerial lifts, media plane climbing frames, and on building maintenance unit.
• Extensive standing, walking, climbing, keyboard usage and general administrative duties.
• Occasional travel to NY or Burbank, CA (<10%).
Pay Range
$142,500 - $155,000 USD
