Job Description

Senior Software Development Engineer (SRE)

Contribute to the most advanced technical solutions in the industry that meet industry-leading operational, technical, and software excellence standards. Lead engineers and other disciplines to meet industry and corporate needs. Take ownership of projects, initiatives, or major system areas.

Key Result Areas:

Coding:
• Implements solutions that are modular, portable, testable, and reliable
• Owns implementation of an entire sub-system, library, or tool
• Manages complex interactions between different modules and libraries of code throughout a software system
• Possesses expert knowledge of their software domain
• Applies known and proven algorithms, design patterns, and coding techniques to implement designs
• Analyzes, identifies, and fixes defects within domain code without introducing excessive regressions
• Delivers well-tested and stable code on schedule within their area of responsibility with minimal bugs
• Drives usage of coding best practices and standards; reviews overall domain code to identify areas of improvements and works with individuals to make changes
• Goes out of their way to reduce complexity

Knowledge Sharing & Collaboration:
• Shows initiative beyond knocking tasks off a list; able to identify and suggest areas of future work for themselves or their teams
• Writes tech specs and identifies risks before starting major projects
• Proactively removes silos - unafraid to work outside their discipline
• Can take an epic, break it down into stories, and lead other developers in completing them
• Mentors junior engineers both technically and culturally
• Participates extensively in code reviews and provides helpful feedback
• Takes strong ownership of the team's operational challenges, as well as remediation
Operational Excellence:
• Jumps in to help debug and triage critical systems as needed Learning

Communication:
• Conducts demos / brown bags to help level up the teams' understanding of technologies and processes
• Understands company dynamics, products, and processes
• Requires very little oversight beyond high-level direction
• Identifies risks in code, features, and design, and communicates these to the appropriate parties
• Communicates decisions through technical design artifacts, tech talks, and leading team meetings
• Effectively communicates with a cross-functional audience
• Communicates effectively with third parties
• Contributes to hiring efforts (interviewing, resume review, etc.)

• Authentic Communication - listening more often than speaking; give speaker full attention and focus on their content rather than thinking about how to respond; ensure your own message is understood (ask for feedback); avoid ambiguous verbiage

The base salary compensation range for this role is $160,000 to $195,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
