Job Profile:

We are looking for a talented and precise project editor to work on the award-winning non-fiction list at Simon & Schuster. They will help us to publish the most exciting and distinctive talent in non-fiction and champion our books and authors with clear vision and creativity, ensuring they are a success critically and commercially.

The Role:

Working alongside commissioning editors in-house, the project editor will take a complete manuscript through all stages of the editing process, coordinating with authors and with agents when necessary, the editor, and the production and design departments to ensure that assigned projects are delivered within deadlines and budgets and to ensure the smooth running of our non-fiction publishing schedule.

The role will involve some structural and line editing, writing of cover copy, checking copyedits and proof corrections, proofreading, liaising with freelancers, compiling plate sections and ensuring accurate metadata all while providing excellent author care.

The Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a pedantic desire for grammatical correctness. They will be able to work on their own and take responsibility for the accuracy of the finished product. They will work well to deadlines and have a meticulous ability to project manage. They will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to interact with all parts of the business – externally and internally.

They will have experience of working in a busy editorial team, being responsible for signing books off for press, an awareness of publishing systems and timelines and demonstrable experience of copyediting and proofreading. An interest in non-fiction and awareness of the market would be desirable.
