Simon & Schuster Children's Books was founded in 1998 and is one of the most exciting & innovative publishers in the UK today. Publishing across many genres from picture books through to YA, we are dedicated to publishing books that children love to read. Stars on the fiction list include work by global bestsellers Cassandra Clare and Rachel Renée Russell and home-grown talent from Ben Miller and Danny Wallace, alongside bestselling picture books including the 'Aliens Love Underpants' series by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, the 'Supertato' series by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet and award-winning work from Benji Davies.

Job Profile:

We are looking for a new talented Junior Designer to become a key member of the busy and creative Children's Design team. This role is a full-time and permanent; an exciting entry-level opportunity to work across the children's book publishing list.

The Role:

Reporting to the Children's Creative Director, this is a creative position with a focus on creating the highest quality design work on time and to the agreed brief. The role covers a range of duties from design to administrative tasks. This role will also give the successful candidate the opportunity to be work closely with fellow designers, editors, production and the marketing department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are keen to hear from the widest range of candidates and we're open to different types of experience. If you have experience in design across any area of the arts or entertainment, we would love to hear from you, but it is not essential, nor is it essential that you have worked in trade children's publishing.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and highly-motivated, with a real passion and enthusiasm for Children's books, and a desire to work on an award winning and exciting list. Highly organised, with the ability to work to deadlines in a busy environment, the successful candidate will equally be able to work independently and be a key player of a dynamic team.

You will have a good understanding and expertise in design and illustration and will be knowledgeable about different forms of creative media. A good understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and audio/visual media are a must. A knowledge of digital file formats and conversion of those for print would be ideal.
