Job Description
Editor – Children's Picture Books & Novelties (3 days a week, 12 Month FTC)

DESCRIPTION:

Simon & Schuster Children's Books is one of the leading children's publishers in the UK, dedicated to immersing children of all ages in diverse and creative reading experiences, encouraging a lifelong love of reading. Founded in 1998, it has a record of continuously strong sales, prestigious awards, and numerous high quality and bestselling titles and series. Much-loved authors and illustrators on the colour list include: Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet (Barry the Fish with Fingers, Supertato), Benji Davies (The Storm Whale series), Smriti Halls and Steve Small, Rachel Bright and Nadia Shireen, and Claire Freedman and Ben Cort (the Aliens Love Underpants series).

QUALIFICATIONS:

We're looking for a highly skilled Editor to join our dynamic children's picture book team. In the role you'll help us to publish the most exciting and distinctive talent, championing books, authors and illustrators with a clear vision, creatively, commercially and profitably. This is a hugely exciting time to be joining S&S and a terrific opportunity to work on - and help shape - a dynamic list that's packed with popular, acclaimed and stand-out books for children.

The Role:

Reporting to the Picture Books Publisher, you will be responsible for multiple projects from manuscript to publication, plus provide editorial support to the whole picture books team. We are looking to recruit a passionate and talented Editor to continue to strategically build our bespoke and commercial picture books list, as well as to nurture exciting new voices and to grow our market share.

Your Profile:

You will love children's books and be excited about creating titles which children will ask for on repeat. You must be driven, committed and creative, with excellent editorial skills and a terrific eye for detail. With the ability to project-manage a large number of books on budget and on schedule within a very busy environment, you will be calm under pressure and thrive on meeting deadlines. Working closely with the design, sales, rights, marketing, PR and production teams, you'll nurture strong in-house relationships, and excel in author, illustrator and agent care. Good market awareness across the UK and internationally is required, and demonstrable children's picture book experience is essential.
