DESCRIPTION:

Simon & Schuster UK publishes a wide range of literary and commercial fiction, digital originals and audio books, and is one of the UK's premier publishers. We publish Pulitzer Prize winners, Booker nominees, Richard & Judy Book Club selections, Book Industry award-winners and Sunday Times bestsellers. Our author stable includes both British and international writers such as Philippa Gregory, Santa Montefiore, Chris Carter, Milly Johnson, and Graham Swift.

Job Profile:

We are looking to recruit a commercially savvy and strategically minded commissioning editor, to work on our women's fiction and saga lists.

Your Role:

Reporting to the Publishing Director, Fiction, and working closely with the MD of Adult Publishing and the Brand Development Director, the role is based across S&S's commercial women's fiction and saga lists, and involves taking responsibility for your own authors and acquiring the best new writers for the list. You will manage your own list of authors and will be responsible for delivering strategic and profitable commercial publishing. You will acquire across the women's fiction and saga lists, and will have a keen eye for trends and strong knowledge of the market. You will be a key part of a team dedicated to publishing the very best commercial fiction, and will play a key role in developing the future of our list.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, a meticulous eye for detail and an ability to interact at all levels. A passion for women's fiction and saga is essential, as is an understanding of the wider market and an ability to spot great commercial storytellers. Previous experience within the books and entertainment industries would be an advantage, as would experience of working within an editorial environment, but we are keen to hear from the widest range of candidates and we're open to different types of experience. So if you have a passion for great storytelling and are motivated and have a clear vision of how to bring the best stories to readers then we want to hear from you.

Strong IT skills and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, together with excellent ability to project-manage a highly commercial list of titles, is a must for this role. The ability to multi-task, keep a cool head and have a razor-sharp eye is essential. A creative, passionate and innovative approach is an advantage, and a love of commercial fiction is a must.
