Job Description
Sesame Workshop is looking for a Vice President, Finance and Controller. Sesame Workshop is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit with annual revenues of $250 million and $450 million in net assets. It has multiple subsidiaries and offices in several global markets. We seek an experienced, digitally savvy, solutions-oriented Controller to design and deliver best-in-class finance practices in support of our global mission. The Controller will manage accounting operations, treasury services, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and financial systems. They will design and produce management reporting and analysis to support Sesame Workshop's business objectives, as well as ensure effective and efficient financial operations that comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and other regulatory frameworks.

This role is a key member of Sesame Workshop's senior leadership team. It is a direct report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be a partner to the CFO in designing and delivering a best-in-class Finance function. The Controller will build strong relationships across business leadership and have broad latitude for independent judgment and decision-making.

Responsibilities

Finance and Accounting Leadership
• Provides overall leadership of accounting operations, including, but not limited to: revenue, expenses and payables, external and management reporting, analysis and audits
• Plans, organizes and oversees the annual Financial Statement Audit, Federal Single Audit, Federal and International tax filings, and other audits and statutory reporting as may be required by partners or regulatory bodies
• Prepares management reporting, including financial statements and variance analysis
• Assists in preparing Board and Board Committee materials
• Supports the annual budgeting and planning process
• Manages relationships with domestic and international financial institutions; ensures effective cash forecasting and management
• Works with External Investment Management Team to ensure effective stewardship of the Investment Portfolio
• Develops strong working relationship across the organization to better understand business needs, and to provide accounting support

Business Process Improvement
• Leads process improvement efforts; demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset by proactively identifying, recommending, and implementing solutions
• Develops, revises and maintains financial policies, procedures, internal controls and accounting standards; ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Manages and Improves Enterprise Financial Systems, including the NetSuite Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system

Team Leadership
• Actively leads, motivates, develops and provides support to team members
• Builds and maintains a learning and professional growth culture that strongly values diversity and inclusion

Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• CPA Strongly Encouraged, MBA or related Advanced Degree a plus
• 10+ years' experience in an accounting/audit role, including leadership positions; nonprofit and/or media experience a plus
• Proven leadership skills - demonstrated ability to hire, retain, and develop strong inclusive teams
• Understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); experience with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) a plus
• Data and Technology Savvy: able to evaluate new ways to leverage technology to improve processes, and to leverage and model data to inform decision making
• Experience leading a business process transformation effort, including leveraging automation and technology to improve business practices
• Experience working with multiple subsidiaries and international offices a plus
