Job Description
The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Specialist, Editorial. This position will research proposed content for competition circumstances; write content; perform editorial reviews on content; participate in IT development and testing activities related to content systems; format documents and materials; and coordinates with the Bee's editorial staff and contributors. This is a hybrid role located in Cincinnati, OH.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Proofread and edit content proposed for use in Bee competition materials, study materials and finished products.
• Research content proposed by self and contributors to ensure that it meets established criteria.
• Write content for use in Bee competition materials, study materials and products.
• Review grade-appropriate books, curate selections and develop related content for print and digital platforms.
• Collaborate with Bee colleagues and IT on the development and testing of content systems.
• Participate in group editorial reviews.
• Format documents and materials for use by teachers, students and bee officials at all levels of the program.
• Support the program's event and customer service needs, as well as other functions on an as-needed and as-assigned basis.
• Attend and staffs regional and national competitions on an as-needed and as-assigned basis.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• BS/BA in English, journalism or related field preferred
• Generally, 4+ years of experience in document formatting and desktop publishing, proofreading/editing and writing for business needs or curriculum

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
• Excellent interpersonal skills with coworkers, contractors and customers
• Excellent written communications skills: strong grammar, spelling and English usage expected
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously
• Advanced Microsoft Word skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro
• Ability to quickly learn custom applications
• Comfort with technology and Internet-based research
• Ability to adapt to event-based changes in workload
• Familiarity with reference work use and terminology management
• Additional travel and work outside official office hours: approximately 10 days of out-of-town travel for Bee Week, which is the week of Memorial Day including the weekend before and after. An additional 4-6 weekend days of work are required per year for meetings and competitions. Work outside of official office hours is required periodically to ensure the successful administration of Bee Week and the roll-out of some deliverables
