Director of Affiliate

Role x You:

The Director, Affiliate will oversee the Refinery29 affiliate team.They will be responsible for creating and implementing a growth strategy, inclusive of diversifying our content into video and stories opportunities.

Role x Team:

The content led by the Affiliate teams across Vice Media Group refines the global marketplace for our audience with expansive, creative storytelling that is expertly researched and crafted with the intent to convert reader into shopper. We always put the audience's needs first and focus on products that will enhance their life. We consider any purchase - big or small - to be an investment.

The articles written by the Affiliate team operate separately from our editorial team, with the goal of generating revenue from sales of goods & services featured in the articles.This role is a non-union position that is not recognized by a collective bargaining agreement.

In the short term…
• Manage a team of fulltime and freelance affiliate content producers & writers - helping the team hone their prose and cover product reviews, relevant goods & services, and deals with an expert voice and the Refinery29 point of view
• Help establish and execute the affiliate content strategy (US-based and global) to achieve the annual revenue target
• Manage ongoing tracking of relevant KPIs on affiliate performance
• Collaborate with the SEO, Analytics, Social, and Email teams to identify trends and audience development tactics that attract an audience interested in shopping

After 6 months in this role…
• Support the VP, Commerce and Partnerships in managing the affiliate global P&L
• Identify key categories across all brand verticals to test for coverage in consideration of affiliate revenue goals
• Working closely with your team and contributors to help them improve as commerce writers and analytical thinkers, providing regular feedback on the consistent areas of improvement you see
• Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure best practices are met

Responsibilities:
• Creatively translate consumer behavior trends as they relate to our audience, and seek out relevant, quality products that are worthy of coverage for well-crafted affiliate content
• Develop and test new story formats, affiliate-focused shopping packages, and series
• Must be available to work during the biggest shopping events including: Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Week
• Brandish a keen, deep understanding of editorial media work, Internet culture, and the Vice brand, reader and voice
• Manage vendor relationships as necessary

You have these:
• Understanding of analytical tools as they relate to affiliate marketing and traffic
• Experience working in a digital and revenue generating line of business
• Strategic thinking and creative packaging skills
• Strong understanding of commerce + content, retail trends, and the competitive landscape
• Positive, intuitive/proactive, and collaborative team player
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Minimum 4 years affiliate experience
