Job Description

The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Purchase College, SUNY, contains three academic departments (BFA Acting, BFA Theatre Design/Technology, BA Theatre & Performance) and produces an annual season of around 20 unique works of theatre at a variety of production scales. This season includes fully-realized productions directed by guest artists with significant materials budgets and BFA student design and technical teams (approx 10 shows/year), as well as student-produced projects with extremely limited departmental support (approx 10 shows/year). This position reports to the Conservatory Production Manager, and is an integral part of both BFA and BA production within the Conservatory, collaborating regularly with students, staff, and faculty. The position will oversee the CMFT Wood Shop, a production space used by students from non-Conservatory programs on campus as well as by Theatre Arts students as well as two performance spaces, a classroom, and storage spaces within the CMFT (Center for Media, Film, and Theatre) building. The position will provide production management oversight for BA Theatre & Performance student-produced senior project productions. The position will supervise student workers in the maintenance and operations of the Wood Shop and, Electrics/Sound Shop. The position will provide support to the Production Manager in the creation and distribution of production calendars and other information as needed.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in theatrical production management and shop management, with 3-5 years of professional production and shop experience, or demonstrate equivalent skills and experience in other professional capacities. The successful candidate will also possess superior organizational, leadership, budgeting, and interpersonal communication/collaboration skills. Successful candidates will be committed to providing conservatory training within the context of a public undergraduate institution housing a unique combination of Liberal Arts, Science, and Arts Conservatory programs. Fluency in all aspects of technical theatre and close familiarity with theatrical carpentry, lighting, and sound shop operations and the construction and maintenance of theatrical facilities are essential. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Familiarity with a college conservatory setting and experience working within the SUNY system are considered assets; willingness to adapt professional skills and training to an educational environment is essential.

Location pay of $3,026.
