PMRe: Technical SWRO Plant Operator

Penske Media Real Estate (PMRe), a division of Penske Media Corp. (PMC) is hiring a skilled and experienced Technical SWRO (Seawater Reverse Osmosis) Plant Operator for a private island development in the Bahamas (Torch Cay). The technician will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the SWRO plant and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. This role requires technical expertise in water treatment processes, mechanical and electrical systems, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate and monitor the SWRO plant and associated equipment to ensure continuous production of high-quality potable water.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on pumps, membranes, filters, and chemical dosing systems.
• Conduct water quality testing and analysis to ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults within the plant.
• Maintain accurate records of plant operations, maintenance activities, and equipment performance.
• Assist in process optimization, including membrane cleaning, chemical dosing adjustments, and energy efficiency improvements.
• Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Support emergency response and corrective action plans in case of system failures or malfunctions.
• Collaborate with engineers, operators, and other technical staff to improve plant performance.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex technical issues.
• Optimize plant processes to reduce energy consumption and enhance water recovery rates.
• Supervise membrane cleaning, replacement, and performance testing.
• Collaborate with engineering teams for system upgrades and new technology integration.
• Develop and implement predictive maintenance schedules for critical equipment.

Job Qualifications

Education:
• High school diploma or GED (required).
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental) or Water Technology (preferred).
• Advanced training or certification in water treatment systems or reverse osmosis technology.

Key Skills and Competencies

Technical Expertise:
• Advanced knowledge of seawater desalination processes, including pre-treatment, reverse osmosis, and post-treatment.
• Ability to configure and calibrate automated systems, including SCADA, PLCs, and sensors.
• Proficiency in analyzing system performance data and recommending technical improvements.

Mechanical and Electrical Aptitude:
• Skilled in the maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, valves, and instrumentation.
• Understanding of electrical systems, including motor controls and power systems relevant to plant operations.

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:
• Expertise in diagnosing complex issues such as scaling, fouling, or equipment failures.
• Ability to develop solutions that improve plant efficiency, reliability, and energy consumption.

Software Proficiency:
• Experience with plant management software, SCADA systems, and performance monitoring tools.
• Proficiency in using software for data logging, trend analysis, and reporting.

Communication and Leadership:
• Ability to train junior operators or maintenance staff on technical systems.
• Clear reporting and documentation of operational data, system performance, and maintenance records.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
• Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to high temperatures, chemicals, and noise.
• Capability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces if needed.
• Comfortable performing physically demanding tasks like equipment lifting or climbing ladders.
• Ability to work in challenging environments (e.g., confined spaces, high noise, or coastal conditions).
