Job Description
Harmony Books and Rodale Books, leaders in wellness publishing and home to some of the most iconic authors in the world, including Deepak Chopra, Arianna Huffington, Gretchen Rubin, and John Gottman, among others, is seeking a Senior Designer for 1-color book interior design.

The Senior Designer will work predominantly on 1-color book interiors of various complexities, ranging from a simple text flow for a memoir to a more complicated exercise book with grayscale photography, to texts with charts and complex hierarchies. They will be responsible for the design of 10 to 25 original book interiors per season, 15 to 20% of which will be oversight of freelance designers, so management communication skills are a plus.

We are looking for at least 5 years of experience with book interior design-a designer who loves text design and typography. This Senior Designer will collaborate mostly with editors, production editors, production managers, and in-house and out-of-house compositors on a day-to-day basis and will fill an important missing piece of our busy and creative art and design department. The candidate should have experience with full production of a book interior-from structure tagging layouts, preparing forms and files for compositors, outputting a first pass, checking passes created by compositors for errors, to creating a binding die.

Requirements:
• Mastery of Adobe InDesign on a Mac
• Proficiency in other Adobe software, Microsoft Word, and structure tagging ​
• Experience with Word tagging and workflow preferred
• Able to work independently as well as cross-departmentally
• Experience creating and enforcing procedural workflows for 1c design is a plus
Other important responsibilities will include the occasional 2c interior project, working with paperback reprints, and overseeing design reviews for the Quark to InDesign initiative.
