Job Description
Public Policy Manager - Publishing Industry (Open to Remote)

Penguin Random House seeks a Public Policy Manager to represent our publishing business interests at the state level, with a particular focus on securing the freedom to read. The ideal candidate will have experience in public policy, law, or government affairs and can communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

The Public Policy Manager will report to the Chair of the Intellectual Freedom Committee and will collaborate closely with the Legal Department and other teams across the organization, such as editorial, publicity, marketing, sales, and corporate communications.

Responsibilities
• Develop and implement a nationwide advocacy and legislative strategy to introduce and support Freedom to Read laws and oppose the passage of censorship laws.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key policymakers, regulators, industry associations, and advocacy groups.
• Prepare and deliver regular written and oral reports, briefings, and presentations to the Intellectual Freedom Committee and PRH leadership.
• Provide timely and actionable public policy recommendations to Intellectual Freedom Committee and PRH leadership.
• Assist with drafting of internal and external communications.
• Serve as a representative of PRH at events, meetings, and conferences.
• Track and analyze bills relevant to the publishing industry, such as intellectual property and privacy.

Qualifications
• Passionate belief in free expression and the right of young people to read freely.
• Bachelor's degree in public policy, law, political science, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in public policy, government affairs, or a similar role, preferably in publishing, education, or a related sector.
• Knowledge of state-level legislative and regulatory processes and procedures.
• Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize complex policy issues and data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences and formats.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and across diverse levels of the organization.
• Initiative-taking, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software tools.

The salary for this position is $85,000- $110,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results. Please also ensure you are including a cover letter with your resume. Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.
