Production Editorial at Penguin Random House is looking for a Production Editor fluent in Spanish (both verbal & written) to work on our growing list of Spanish and bilingual publishing at Penguin Young Readers! The Production Editor will focus on copyediting and proofreading an assortment of Spanish-language texts, while also working with our bilingual titles, ranging from board books to novels, English-language titles that feature Spanish text, as well as Spanish-language marketing materials and press releases.

Penguin Young Readers is an industry leader in publishing a variety of children's book formats, including picture books, board books, middle-grade, young adult, and graphic novels, and authors including Sabaa Tahir, Matt de la Peña, Ibram X. Kendi, Jan Brett, and Sonia Sotomayor.

The role requires communication with various PYR departments, including Managing Editorial, Editorial, Design, and Marketing. The Production Editor will also be the in-house coordinator for our freelance Spanish-language copy editors and proofreaders. The ideal candidate has a love for children's books and an expert knowledge of grammar, spelling, and usage in the Spanish language. This position requires persistent attention to detail, an ear for language and narrative voice, and strong collaborative people skills.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who has strong analytical skills, communicates clearly, and will be an active participant in a collaborative team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively and is comfortable asking for help when needed.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure consistency of style and accuracy of spelling, grammar, and punctuation for Spanish-language and bilingual books and related materials, and ensure the accuracy of English-Spanish translations
• Proofread covers, jackets, and interiors, and verify accuracy of book information at every stage
• Act as a Spanish-language resource for other production editors and other departments
• Hire and review work of Spanish-language freelancers as needed
• Maintain ''internal logic'' of assigned books, act as a consultant regarding editorial-related questions, and resolve problems through discussions with Managing Editorial, Editorial, and Design

Requirements:
• Fluency in both Spanish and English (verbal and written); native proficiency preferred
• At least three years of experience copyediting/proofreading/editing in the Spanish language, for a Spanish-language publisher, is a requirement to succeed in this role
• Thorough command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage in the Spanish language; formal training or certification a plus
• Proficiency with the RAE (Real Academia Española, aka Royal Academy of Spanish) and familiarity with the usage of inclusive language in Spanish
• Familiarity with various dialects of Spanish a plus
• Digital editing experience, including copyediting with Track Changes in Microsoft Word and proofreading in Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to work independently and decisively on multiple projects, accommodating shifting schedules and frequent interruptions
• Clear, conscientious, and collaborative communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated fact-checking skills and instincts and proficiency with Merriam-Webster and Chicago Manual of Style are a plus

The salary for this position is $63,000. Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program.
