Production Editor, Random House (Open to remote)

The Random House Production Editorial team seeks a Production Editor to
oversee a variety of titles from manuscript to bound book . Founded in 1925, Random House is the home to award-winning, critically acclaimed, bestselling fiction and nonfiction authors, including Lee Child, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Jodi Picoult, George R. R. Martin, Emma Cline, Jon Meacham, and Deepak Chopra.

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Production Editor, working closely with the editorial, design, and production groups, will be responsible for handling a range of titles across the Random House breadth, including original titles (including some 4-color), from manuscript to bound book/ePub, as well as hardcover-to-paperback conversions, across many genres, from popular and literary fiction to biographies, memoirs, history, sports, self-help, cookbooks, current affairs, business, and religion.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who has strong analytical skills, communicates clearly, and will be an active participant in a collaborative team . The i deal candidate will manage a diverse set of responsibilities efficiently and effectively and is comfortable asking for help when needed.

The Role:
• Hiring, for original titles, freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers and reviewing their work, including clearing manuscripts post-copyediting and collating changes from authors and freelancers in page proofs
• Coding/tagging manuscripts for design and composition
• Copyediting jacket/cover copy and second-format additional material, including sales quotes and reading group guides, and proofreading jackets/covers, captions, and additional material
• Collaborating on and maintaining book schedules

The Essentials:
• At least 3 years' experience as a trade book production editor or freelancer
• A detailed familiarity with Chicago Manual and/or Words into Type style, and general facility with modern copyediting style
• Familiarity with electronic copyediting, using Microsoft Word
• Preferably experience working on 4-color books
• A team player (but also a solid autonomous worker) who is flexible; has strong copyediting, proofreading, and organizational skills; is able to set and meet deadlines; is capable of rising to a challenge

The salary for this position is $65,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
