Job Description
The Random House Children's Books art team is looking for a highly motivated, creative individual with a passion to grow their knowledge in all aspects of children's book design, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The focus of this design position is on our Random House Studio imprint, with the designer involved in all phases of picture book design, from concept through final production, with the support and guidance of the art director. The designer will also work on board books, re-format editions and special projects.

The Random House Studio list of books published includes the Caldecott Medal–winning A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka, as well as numerous New York Times bestselling picture book series, including Duck & Goose and Rocket, and Uni the Unicorn. R ecent titles include The Big Bath House, The Creature of Habit and Attack of the Underwear Dragon.

Responsibilities:
• High-quality design of picture books from concept to final art using creativity, resourcefulness, and understanding of goals.
• Work collaboratively with editors and art directors to brainstorm, review, and strategize. Meet with art director to coordinate feedback to illustrators, and production to color correct.
• Work with illustrators from sketch to final art for covers and interiors of assigned titles. Help illustrator manage deadlines, troubleshoot, and brainstorm the development of their book.
• Route layouts for approval, release to production according to printing standards, with attention to detail, on schedule.
• Research and pitch new artists, bringing samples to art/editorial meetings that match the tone of the book being considered.
• Communicate in an effective, professional, and courteous manner with all parties encountered.
• Perform other related projects and duties as needed.

Essential Qualifications/Requirements:
• 3–5 years in a children's book design position with emphasis on highly illustrated titles, or equivalent.
• Genuine passion for children's books, illustration, and typography.
• Strong Mac computer skills and technical knowledge, including current InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator programs.
• Strong organizational skills, and dedication to detail, quality, and process. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Hardworking, self-starting, collaborative, diplomatic, and able to work independently.
